Position Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for establishing, stabilizing, and maintaining World-Class manufacturing processes and supply chain. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in enhancing our manufacturing capabilities, particularly in diffusion bonding and brazing for heat exchangers across various industries. This role requires proficiency in SolidWorks for designing tooling and fixtures, coupled with strong project engineering skills to liaise with customers and ensure their requirements are effectively integrated into our manufacturing processes. The ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment is a must. VPE is AS9100 registered and manufactures ITAR products. US citizenship or lawful permanent resident status, as defined by 8 U.S.C. § 1101(a), is required. Familiarity with Diffusion Bonding, Vacuum Brazing, Heat Treating, Welding, Plating, and Precision Machining processes are beneficial.
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive manufacturing engineering support to meet design specifications, including in-house manufacturing processes, external services, and final assemblies.
- Develop and maintain process standard work documentation, focusing on ergonomics and efficiency.
- Offer technical oversight to external vendors, ensuring alignment with project requirements.
- Lead initiatives to optimize producibility, reduce cycle times, minimize yield losses, and control costs.
- Conduct Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations using methodologies such as 8D, A3, PDCA, or DMAIC.
- Establish key process measures and implement robust process controls, supported by measurement system analysis (MSA).
- Collaborate closely with production control on rework plans and modifications to shop orders.
- Manage product data ownership, including ERP routings, cycle times, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Support product costing analysis by evaluating process activities and times.
Product Data Ownership:
- Enable production scheduling: establish and maintain ERP routings and cycle times.
- Enable supply chain management: establish and revise ERP Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Product Support
- Analyze process activity and times to support product costing
- Facilitate the transition of products from R&D to stable manufacturing, ensuring seamless integration of manufacturing process requirements.
- Participate in product design reviews, offering insights into manufacturing process limitations, requirements, and considerations.
Required Skills:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering or operations, with a track record in new product launches and major project management.
- Demonstrated leadership in providing technical direction for manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks for designing tooling, fixtures, and managing project engineering tasks.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to implement Lean principles such as Standard Work, 5S, SMED, and Kaizen.
- Excellent communication skills, essential for customer interactions and cross-functional team collaboration.
- Ability to autonomously manage projects with accountability for delivering results.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 software tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
Preferred Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, another engineering discipline, or equivalent training/experience
- Must have proven experience in Aviation, Aerospace, or Automotive Industries
- Previous exposure to Diffusion Bonding and Vacuum Brazing
Language Skills:
Ability to read, interpret, and understand detailed technical documents, including customer specifications, component manuals, operational procedures, and safety instructions. Proficient in writing clear and detailed correspondence, reports, and documentation related to manufacturing processes, technical specifications, and customer requirements. Skilled in presenting technical information effectively in one-on-one and small group settings. Capable of explaining complex technical concepts and customer requirements to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of ERP systems (preferably JobBoss), proficiency in 3D modeling software (SolidWorks), and expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, Project, etc.).
