Nashua, United States Southern New Hampshire Health Full time

Come work at the best place to give and receive care

Job Description:

SUMMER 2024 COHORT - START DATE 10/7/2024

Who We Are:

At Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, a four-time Magnet designated hospital, our nurses are engaged in creating exceptional patient outcomes in a supportive work environment. Nurse are empowered to improve patient care through shared governance and evidence-based practice. These core values are why our nurses love working here

Southern New Hampshire Medical Center has been recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Magnet hospital since 2006. The Magnet credential represents the gold standard for an organization that supports autonomous nursing practice and interprofessional collaboration to maintain the highest quality of care.

About the Job:

Our Nurse Residency is a 12-month transition to practice program utilizing an evidence-based curriculum to facilitate professional development and support for new graduate nurses through Education, Mentorship, Leadership, and Preceptor. The program combines didactic and simulation-based learning, with precepted clinical experiences and professional development opportunities.

Our goal is to optimize the orientation experience while setting new nurses on the pathway to achieve their career goals. The novice nurse will participate in a Clinical Development Pathway which combines general and specialty specific learning and development and brings the new graduate from their first day to certification and beyond.

Our Residency Program is designed to grow confident nurses who are engaged in their profession and deliver compassionate, quality care that achieves exceptional patient outcomes. Currently we offer medical surgical, critical care, emergency, perioperative, procedural, and maternal-child tracks. As a Magnet organization, our goal is to engage our nurses from day one and provide an environment for them to grow and achieve their professional goals.

What You’ll Do:

Upon completion of the residency our nurses will:

  • confidently provide patient care as part of an interprofessional team
  • have a voice in their practice by participating in shared governance
  • prepare to achieve specialty certification or pursue further academic education
  • be motivated to take part in our clinical advancement program
  • have opportunities to advance their careers or explore other specialty nursing roles

Nurses entering the Nurse Residency Program will apply into their preferred clinical specialty, and if accepted, be placed on the Nursing Development Pathway that corresponds with their experience and role. New Graduates are expected to participate in the Residency full-time, which allows them to start learning on their unit of hire, while participating in the regularly scheduled shared learning sessions with clinical experts. Our general sessions bring new nurses together from across the organization to discuss professional nursing issues and to build relationships and strengthen nursing practice.

After nurse residents complete their initial clinical orientation, they will continue to participate in the residency while building their advanced specialty knowledge, clinical skill set, and working on their assigned shift.

Who You Are:

  • Graduating from an Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (or equivalent) from an accredited institution required.
  • Registered Nurse, licensed in the state of NH or eligible
