Job Summary:
The Academic Advisorwill provide academic advisement and career guidance to students within anassigned area/specialty. This position requires working closely with facultyand staff to provide support to students as they navigate through theeducational process. The priority for this position is to ensure consistentinstitutional standards related to student enrollment, persistence andretention, and graduation.

The TransitionalAdvisor will provide personalized academic advisement and career guidance to students transitioning from career technology centers, aswell as students pursuing technical A.A.S. degree programs. This positionrequires working closely with faculty and staff to provide support to studentsas they navigate through the educational process. The priority for thisposition is to ensure consistent institutional standards related to studentenrollment, persistence and retention, and graduation.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Provide academic advising to prospective, first-time, transfer, and returning students; strategize with students on the timely completion of A.A.S. degree requirements and focus on academic/career success. Work with faculty and staff to develop advisement strategies that specifically address the needs of students.
  2. Develop and lead advising strategies for special student populations, which include but are not limited to career technology center students. This will include collaborating with campus recruiters and other campus departments to effectively recruit and onboard students transitioning from career technology centers to our campus.
  3. Interpret federal, state, and institutional polices and professionally communicate these to faculty, students, and staff. Maintain a current understanding of academic policies, procedures, and processes. Be familiar with policies involving accreditations and certifications related to specific degree programs.
  4. Assist students with schedule development and course registration (drop, add and withdrawal). Educate students on how follow a degree plan and utilize online enrollment.
  5. Advise A.A.S. students planning to transfer to other institutions for continuing education on course transfer, degree options and long-term career goals.
  6. Evaluate transcripts from other academic institutions for equivalencies and application to degree programs. Assist with evaluation and processing of college credits earned through Prior Learning Assessment.
  7. Advise students in relation to the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP). Prepare and monitor student educational plans in compliance with institutional and federal regulations.
  8. Increase student awareness of campus resources and programs which enhance the student's college experience. Make referrals to off campus community resources as needed.
  9. Maintain confidentiality of student records and observe policies related to student privacy (FERPA).
  10. Assist with recruitment and student engagement efforts, including visiting career tech centers, delivering presentations and distributing information to prospective and current students as needed.
  11. Promote degree completion and assist students with degree audits, My Academic Plans (MAPs) and graduation applications. Utilize the program of study materials to provide guidance and advisement to students enrolled in partnering career technology center programs.
  12. Assist with campus-wide persistence and graduation efforts. Plan and implement retention strategies specifically targeting students within an assigned specialty/area of focus.
  13. Serve as a liaison between the academic advisement team and other functional areas of campus. Disseminate information regarding assigned specialty/area of focus as needed.
  14. Participate in Advisement Team meetings/trainings, campus committees and on-going professional development opportunities.
  15. Participate in ongoing departmental documentation and process improvement efforts; exhibit an understanding to this positions role in the campus semester plans, standard operating procedures, key performance indicators, etc.
  16. Completes all mandatory training and participated in a minimum of two professional development each year.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned.
