Summary

  • Position Summary

    The MMC Patient Access Emergency Department Supervisor is responsible for direct supervision of Patient Access care team members supporting the 65 bed Maine Medical Center Emergency Department. The Maine Medical Center Emergency Department is a Level 1 Trauma Center. The Supervisor's oversight includes accurate and timely patient arrival/check in, demographic and insurance verification, financial navigation, bed side registration, copay collections, check-out, and admissions. The Supervisor has the in depth knowledge and ability of each Patient Access function performed within the department and will as needed perform these functions. The above functions are performed in a clinical environment requiring both the Supervisor and the Patient Access care team members to work in tandem with varying levels of clinical staff and clinical leadership. The Supervisor oversees Patient Access care team members working 24/7 and under the oversight of the Patient Access Manager, the Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership, support and direction in the application of the Patient Access standards and principles of continuous improvement. The scope of responsibility includes maintaining the processes, data system accuracy and infrastructure that ensures MaineHealth receives timely payment for services provided or makes alternative financial arrangements, and that patients receive prompt clinical services. The Patient Access Supervisor ensures that the financial goals and objectives based upon the department metrics are achieved monthly for each area of responsibility. Creates an environment where new ideas are encouraged. Reinforces staff involvement in all improvement activities and develops department goals and objectives which support the health system. Maintains a full understanding of each role within the process and its impact on the larger scope of the Revenue Cycle.

    Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

    1. Education: 2 year college degree or equivalent leadership experience.
    2. License/Certifications: N/A
    3. Experience: 1-2 years in a related Healthcare Field and 1-2 years leadership experience preferred.
    4. A high level of self-activation and ability to work in a high volume, fast paced work environment requiring prioritization of multiple tasks simultaneously.
    5. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to present and explain information to customers and stakeholders. Communication skills include experience working with Microsoft Office products.
    6. Customer service experience required including training in customer service principles.
    7. Must be able to handle sensitive, stressful and confidential situations and account information
