Overview

The Research Coordinator assists with implementing and assessing therapeutic mindfulness and movement based interventions, as well as other various ongoing pediatric studies, for the Center for Neurodevelopmental and Imaging Research (CNIR). This position coordinates work efforts with local research and administrative partners in the Baltimore area. The Research Coordinator will support CNIR staff with implementing ongoing research procedure development by coordinating instructions for children and parents enrolled in CNIR research protocols. The Research Coordinator will perform administrative functions for ongoing pediatric studies including creating and maintaining study protocol and IRB documentation, assisting with research participant recruitment and scheduling, and collecting, coding, and archiving data.

Responsibilities

Assist with study enrollment by completing the screening process, including conducting initial telephone screening interviews with potential participants in order to determine eligibility status. Schedule appointments and prepare participant packets for research study participants to come to the CNIR for behavioral testing and to receive neuroimaging scans, as well as assist with the study enrollment process by supporting the behavioral team. Meet with the participant's parent (s) and/or guardian to review and describe details within the consent forms for various research studies. Administer and score a variety of psychosocial, behavioral, and physiologic assessments, adhering to study protocols and Institutional Review Boards (IRB) requirements. This will include computerized tests of attention, cognitive control, motor imitation, handwriting, and other motor performance and will involve working with participants with diagnoses of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Tourette Syndrome, Reading Disability (RD), anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and other related developmental conditions as well as typically-developing (TD) children without such diagnoses. Responsible for accurately coding, verifying, and entering research data into behavioral databases. Organize and maintain participant records to ensure accessibility, completion, and compliance with IRB standards. Accompany participants down to the neuroimaging scanner and assist imaging staff with mock scanning by explaining procedures and sequence of events. Help to ensure that participants are comfortable and ready to participate in the study. Assist in the creation and maintenance of study protocols in accordance with standards set by the Kennedy Krieger Institute and Johns Hopkins Hospital (JHH) Institutional Review Boards (IRB). This includes creating and submitting further study actions in accordance with IRB maintenance timelines, as well as continuously updating study protocols with changes in research aims and procedures. Assist with research study coordination and communications in accordance with the funding agency's award statement including grant progress reports, and funding documentation. Actively participate in project meetings involving, but not limited to, grant preparation, manuscript preparation (formulating ideas, literature searches), perform statistical analyses, quality control issues, and protocol development or revision. Actively participate in manuscript preparation including, but not limited to, formulating ideas, conducting literature searches, performing data analyses, and assisting in manuscript writing. Provide support to psychology associates to train students and volunteers on all aspects of the research protocols. Enhance professional growth and development through case conferences, educational programs, in-service meetings, workshops, conferences, and seminars. Assist in facilitating meetings with research and administrative partners such as area foundations, local school boards and principals, public health officials, and service providers. Schedule meetings, prepares the agenda, facilitates discussion, and takes notes when required.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Knowledge of standard research protocols.
* Knowledge of standard IRB maintenance tasks.
* Knowledge and working familiarity with MS Office suite.
* Background in scientific research, familiar with skills including literature search, planning of research projects, experimentation, interpretation of data, and preparation for publication.
* Experience with computers and specific software operation such as graphical, spreadsheet, and word processing programs.
* Excellent organization and communications skills, as well as strong attention to visual details.
* Ability to work with large datasets.

EDUCATION:

* BA/BS in psychology or other related social sciences required.

EXPERIENCE:

* Two (2) years of relevant experience working with pediatric populations required.
* Prior experience with human subject research projects highly desirable.
