Instructional Interventionist

Primarily Reports to: Principal
Secondarily Reports to: Superintendent Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year College or University, preferably in the area of Special Education, Reading, or Math. Master's degree preferred.
  • Teacher certification or certificate of eligibility
  • Experience tutoring students
  • 2+ years of teaching experience
Position Summary
  • The Instructional Interventionist works with parents and classroom teachers to attend to the social, personal and academic needs of students who have been identified as at-risk of failing. Strong communication skills and the ability to relate to a diverse student constituency are important skills in this job. The Instructional Interventionist provides detailed documentation of student progress and develops supplementary education that serves as a companion to the general curriculum. Assessment of student potential and recommendations for further services is a regular duty of the Interventionist.
  • Plays a key role in assisting students who are experiencing difficulties in the classroom. Rooted in a special education background, an intervention teacher provides expertise and intentional support to students who demonstrate behavioral, social and educational challenges.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Exemplify, advocate and operationalize the mission, vision and core values of the school
  • Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English or Math that meet state and federal standards
  • Provide instruction that is consistent and coordinated with the school's instructional program so as to ensure that students meet and exceed learning targets
  • Design and implement academic interventions using research-based methodology in reading and/or math.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students
  • Communicate with school personnel and parents/guardians of students regarding reading and/or math level and rate of progress.

  • Differentiate instruction based on assessment data.
  • Document interventions and progress on each student whom you support.
  • Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies
  • Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction as to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior required to run an orderly and productive classroom environment
  • Coordinate with teachers to meet the needs of struggling students in their classrooms
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the Principal
  • Attend appropriate trainings and Staff Development sessions
