Job Description: Linux Systems Engineer
The Linux Systems Engineer will play a critical role in the modernization of Army insider threat programs performing Army and national security missions
The Engineer will work with a small team to automate and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems
In addition, the Engineer will utilize various methods to identify and track high value Army digital resources, and work with multiple Army programs in an advisory role to help their development teams better understand and meet the requirements of ICS500-27
The Engineer will analyze specialized user data and create written reports of any defects or recommended changes with data collection methods
The Engineer will document and provide any requirements to the developers for Army Insider threat programs to help modernize and improve the applications, while providing guidance on data specifications and content across the Army
The Engineer will be able to operate within a rapidly evolving environment and help the Insider threat mission in multiple facets
They will perform Linux administrative tasks in support of the Insider threat programs, work with Insider threat analysts to ensure exceptional data quality and content, and work to ensure the supported insider threat systems are maintained in a secure state
This is an onsite position at the National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC) in Charlottesville, VA
Responsibilities:
• Perform Linux administration.
• Write and troubleshoot Infrastructure as code deployments utilizing Terraform.
• Perform STIG checklists and remediate any defects discovered
• Perform analysis of audit data content and format to find defects with the data.
• Register data defects with required development teams and monitor resolution status of those defects.
Required Education, Certifications and Security Clearance • BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
o Experience may be substituted for degree.
• TS/SCI Clearance
Requirements Experience/Qualifications:
• Eight years of IT related experience overall
• Five years of experience working with Linux server administration
• Experience working with structured data (JSON/XML)
• Familiarity with relevant DOD security standards (ICS 500-27 & CNSSI 1253)
• Ability to develop and brief material in front of groups of 10+ people.
• DOD 8140 (8570) IAM or IAT Level II Certification
• Linux or Cloud environnement certification(s)
• Familiarity with infrastructure as code \
• Experience with NIST Risk management framework (RMF)
• Experience with Security Technical implementation guides (STIG)
Preferred Experience/Qualifications:
• Familiarity with Agile development practices
• Experience with scripting and task automation (python, PowerShell, Perl, etc.)
