Under the supervision of the Director of Athletic Operations and Community Relations, the Athletic Trainer assists in the development and implementation of rehabilitation programs for the prevention and treatment of injuries to student athletes, administers first aid and emergency medical care, and teaches within the physical education curriculum where appropriate.

The Athletic Trainer will be available for team practices during the scheduled sports season. He/she will attend all home contests (approximately 50), which include some weekends.

Starting Salary range: $53,354.75 - $64,857.55 annually

Supplemental Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree or higher (Master's Degree preferred) from an accredited college or university with major course work in physical education, sports medicine or a related field; plus a minimum of two years of related experience.

Must possess and maintain NATABOC certification and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Prepares written policies and procedures in collaboration with the team physician regarding emergency management, evaluation/treatment/reconditioning of injuries, and return-to-play protocols for athletes, including an annual review and update of established programs as necessary.
* Develop and maintain current Emergency Action Plan (EAP) for all athletic competition locations, including the Sports Medicine Center (SMC). Supervise and guide Athletic Training students on EAP procedures; review EAP annually.
* Oversees, directs, and schedules the day-to-day operations of the Athletic Training staff; including the recruitment, guidance, training, and evaluation of student Athletic Training interns
* Acts as liaison between coaches and student athletes regarding injuries.
* Oversees daily environmental conditions including, but not limited to, temperature changes, air quality, and lightning. Recommends alternative practice/game scenarios to ensure the safety of student athletes, school staff, and bystanders.
* Inspects and evaluates dressing rooms, showers, playing fields, indoor facilities, and athletic equipment regularly to reduce potential hazards. Reports findings to necessary personnel for improvement.
* Administers first aid and emergency medical care, including lifesaving procedures to student athletes. In the absence of the team physician, makes decisions concerning the ability of the injured student athlete regarding participation.
* Administers the use of rehabilitation equipment and therapeutic modalities/tools in accordance with current best practices.
* Provide athletic training coverage for all home/hosted contests as described by the CCCAA bylaws. Design and administer a concussion management plan that reflects current standards and practices regarding concussion management.
* Assists in the organization and operation of pre-participation health screenings and physical examinations. Assists in the referral process for student athletes who need additional examinations.
* Reviews previous injuries and provides guidance to the student athlete in safe participation in their sport and day-to-day tasks.
* Maintains student athlete medical documents and rehabilitation/treatment service notes performed by any health care professionals.
* Refers injured student athletes to the team physician, college health center, or other appropriate medical facilities as necessary.
* Applies injury specific bracing and taping as needed.
* Maintains treatment room equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
* Maintains inventory of all athletic training equipment, tape, and modalities and updates this document each semester.
* Develops and maintains an effective working relationship with student athletes, coaches, and health center personnel.
* Prepares a budget for athletic first aid medical supplies and equipment for approval by the Director of Athletic Operations and Community Relations/Dean.
* Facilitates communications between athletes, coaches, parents, administration, and community concerning the health and physical status of athletes.
* With the advice of the insurance agent and in accordance with the Human Resources Department, reviews athletic insurance coverage and assists student athletes and staff in the correct submission of insurance claims.
* Ensures compliance with HIPAA and FERPA.
* Instructs student athletes and coaches about reconditioning programs, nutrition, and hydration in accordance with injuries.
* Works to assist athletes with problems including sexuality, drug abuse, personal, social, and educational goals and objectives. In cases of serious psychosocial difficulties, makes the appropriate professional referrals.
* Is an active member of the college student athlete health and welfare team
* Performs related duties as assigned.
* Prepares and contributes to program reviews including data review as necessary.
* Participates in shared governance meetings as assigned.
* Assists in the organization and implementation of Covid-19 protocols based on current state and county practices. Monitor illness symptoms of student-athletes and coaches and perform Covid-19 testing when deemed necessary.
