Job Summary

For over thirty years, the Santa Cruz County Office of Education has offered a pathway for adult learners to pursue a career as a Medical Assistant. Our 10-month program provides students with the didactic instruction, skills, internship experience, and certifications necessary to perform the duties of a medical assistant. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to apply the basic principles of medical assisting in both an administrative and clinical setting with a high level of accuracy, professionalism, and empathy.

This posting is open until filled. Only candidates who are selected for interviews will be contacted. Applicant must hold, or be eligible for, a Designated Subjects Career Technical Education Credential in the area of Health Science and Medical Technology. Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid driver's license. Comments and Other Information

The CALS Medical Assisting Instructor develops and implements lessons to teach skills required for students to master medical assisting career competencies such as: medical ethics, medical terminology, medical office skills, clinical principles (Scope of Practice), procedural assisting skills, laboratory procedural skills, pharmacology and medication administration, assisting with surgical procedures and venipuncture procedures, understanding of anatomy, physiology, the disease process, patient care, and the use of electronic health records. Provides group and individual instruction using effective teaching strategies, instructional materials, and equipment, in all educational modalities. The Career and Adult Learning Services (CALS) Department provides adult students with the opportunity to acquire academic, career, and technical skills, preparing them for a lifetime of continued learning and success. Our approach is student-centered, featuring intentionally designed programs responsive to student's individual goals and needs. The instructor will help leverage valuable partnerships with industry, workforce, and community stakeholders in the healthcare industry to enhance classroom and work-based learning opportunities. They will also coordinate and maintain industry connections for internship placements and help facilitate a collaborative partnership to support student success.
