Ackerman Cancer Center, the pioneering leader in cancer treatment, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Patient Support Intern to join our team. With the distinction of being the only physician-owned proton center in the world, we are committed to providing innovative and patient-centric care.

Position Overview
The Patient Support Intern works as member of the Social Work team, who provides support and services to patients and their family members. This includes referrals to appropriate community resources (both local and national) that provide quality information, financial assistance and psychosocial support. The Patient Support Intern encourages patients and families to become involved in activities that provide mutual support for each other. This position will also collaborate with the clinical staff on patient navigation and are responsible for assisting with transportation and helping the uninsured access funding services for care.

Essential Job Functions
• Facilitate and assist with Support Programs
• Provide support, education, and education to patients and families to assist with coping with cancer diagnosis
• Connect patients with local and national Foundations to assist with the financial burden of cancer care
• Assist uninsured patients with applications to Medicaid and other funding sources for care
• Assess need for transportation and arrange all transportation for patients for all appointments
• Research and update resources for cancer patients and their families

Requirements
Required
• Seeking Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or other related field
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively
• Strong organizational and follow-through skills
• Confident presentation and facilitation abilities
• Proficient in MS Office
• Ability to multi-task and handle diverse responsibilities

Hours: 20 - 25 hours per week.
