QUALIFICATIONS:

* Possession of valid NJ certification as a School Athletic Trainer

* N.A.T.A. certified.

* Licensed by the NJ Board of Medical Examiners.

* Current CPR / AED / First Aid Certification.

* Ability to manage the care of student athletes involved in the athletic program.

* Experience with conditioning and rehabilitation of injured athletes.

* Ability to effectively communicate with all staff, students, and other members of the school community.

* Other alternatives to the above that the Board deems appropriate.

REPORTS TO: Athletic Director

JOB GOALS:

To help maintain the physical well-being of interscholastic student-athletes through the development and implementation of an athletic care program that focuses on fitness, nutrition, conditioning, injury prevention, and provides for injury evaluation and immediate care and rehabilitation of injured athletes.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Develop and implement appropriate training/conditioning programs while working closely with school physician and coaches.

* Coordinate the concussion baseline testing program, including facilitating return-to play protocols.

* Assists coaches in fitting all protective equipment and securing special protective devices for student-athletes.

* Apply all applicable protective or injury preventative devices.

* Performs weights certification and hydration testing for the wrestling program.

* Administer first aid to injured athletes on the field, in the gymnasium, or in the training room.

* Evaluate injuries incurred by all athletes and determine, with consultation of the parent, whether further medical help is required.

* Follows up with coaches to ensure that an Accident Report for an injured student athlete is submitted to the nurse in a timely manner while keeping a detailed log of injuries sustained.

* Responsible for sending insurance paperwork along with a copy of the Accident Report to the parent in a timely manner.

* At the direction of the school physician or treating physician, develop appropriate therapeutic/rehabilitative programs for any injured athlete.

* Provide and maintain medical first aid kits for each interscholastic athletic team.

* Keep records of all reported injuries and follow-up.

* Inform coaches of all injured athlete's status as to when he or she may return to participation.

* Maintain in proper working order and schedule the use of any and all training equipment and modalities.

* Prepare annual budgetary needs for all supplies and equipment used in the athletic training program.

* Assist the Athletic Director and School Nurse in the administration of the annual mass sports physical examination date.

* Act as liaison between parent and physician to provide the best possible care of an injured athlete and secure medical clearance for return to participation.

* Keep abreast of new trends in athletic training by attending sports medicine workshops and clinics as shall be first approved by supervisory personnel.

* Attend games as assigned and needed at home and away events.

* Maintains a current and informational website for students and parents to reference.

* This position will also be responsible for all other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a ten month position starting on the 1st day of Fall sports, and ending one day after the last scheduled NJSIAA tournament play date. (Dates are set in 3 year cycles by the NJSIAA and range from the 1st week of August through mid June). Compensation to be negotiated with the Superintendent and approved by the Board.

EVALUATION:

The performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation.
