Position Title: EMT-Paramedic I/ED-Tech Department: Ambulance # Purpose: Primary responsibilities are to provide prompt and effective emergency medical care to patients of all ages in emergency and non-emergency situations who require stabilization and/or resuscitation as a result of illness or injury in the field. Provides care as set forth by the system protocols. Included in this care is administering medication to patients of all ages as needed per protocol, accurate documentation of the care provided. In scene management, will follow management structure as set forth by the Federal NIMS standards. Another primary responsibility is precepting students. As a teaching hospital, Genesis Medical Center has a relationship with Blackhawk College and other educational facilities and is responsible for assisting with education of EMT-Paramedic and Basic students in the prehospital and Emergency Department setting. Is responsible for decontamination, cleaning, and restocking of any equipment that has been utilized within the ambulance. In addition, functions as an Emergency Department Technician when not serving in the EMT-Paramedic role in the field. # Report To: Director # Supervisory Responsibility: Guidance: The job requires the provision of occasional guidance and training to others. The job does not have formal or official supervisory responsibilities. # Materials Responsibility: Limited: Work requires limited responsibility for material resources. Examples of resources could include supplies, equipment, inventories, small budgets, and other similar material assets. The employee has a limited amount of control over these resources. The cost of errors is also limited in terms of damage, waste or financial loss. Problems associated with material resources are not complex. Communications are often difficult or stressful in nature. Contact with others involves complex, detailed and often sensitive topics. The job requires a high degree of interpersonal skills to deal with a range of complicated problem situations. Interactions involve gaining the agreement of others. # Working Conditions: There is routine exposure to highly adverse environmental conditions including physical hazards, health and safety risks, and otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment. Personal risks require safety equipment or precautions to be followed closely. POSITION SPECIFICATION

Education: 2 year college program or equivalent experience

Field Of Study: Emergency Medical Services

Special Training: Basic Life Support, ACLS

Training Preferred: NRP, PHTLS (Prehospital Trauma Life Support), EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operators Certification), NIMS National Incident Management System, Incident Command System 100, 200, 700

Licensure/Registration: EMT-P in Illinois, Valid Driver's License

Experience: No experience required.
