Position Title: ED Paramedic
Department: Emergency Care
Purpose: Provides safe, effective, ethical and culturally competent patient care for Emergency Department patients of all age groups requiring stabilization and/or resuscitation. Collaborates in the assessment of the patient and/or situations in a timely, consistent and systematic manner. Implements care under direction of the ED provider to achieve identified outcomes for the patient according to policy and procedure. Performs care and procedures according to protocols and at their respective level of licensure in accordance with guidelines and other delegated tasks approved to perform. Functions within their Scope of Practice in accordance with the Iowa Department of Public Health, Bureau of EMS.
Report To: Manager, Critical Care Services
Supervisory Responsibility: Guidance: The job requires the provision of occasional guidance and training to others. The job does not have formal or official supervisory responsibilities.
Materials Responsibility: Limited: Work requires limited responsibility for material resources. Examples of resources could include supplies, equipment, inventories, small budgets, and other similar material assets. The employee has a limited amount of control over these resources. The cost of errors is also limited in terms of damage, waste or financial loss. Problems associated with material resources are not complex. The volume of resources may vary, but the level of difficulty in dealing with these resources is uncomplicated.

POSITION SPECIFICATION
Education: 2 year college program or equivalent experience
Field Of Study: Emergency Medical Services
Special Training: Basic Life Support, ACLS
Training Preferred: Associates degree; PALS
Licensure/Registration: Licensed Paramedic in Illinois; Licensed Paramedic in Iowa within one year.
Experience: More than 2 years experience required.
Interpersonal Skills: Interaction is with a variety of people inside or outside the organization. Communications are often difficult or stressful in nature. Contact with others involves complex, detailed and often sensitive topics. The job requires a high degree of interpersonal skills to deal with a range of complicated problem situations. Interactions involve earning the trust of children and adolescents, as well as an ability to communicate with them in a clear manner.
Working Conditions: There is routine exposure to highly adverse environmental conditions including physical hazards, health and safety risks, and otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment. Personal risks require safety equipment or precautions to be followed closely. The time the employee may be exposed to these conditions is limited to 70% or less of the work day.
