The Alzheimer Prevention Program (APP) and Center for Alzheimer Research and Treatment (CART) at Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Massachusetts General Hospital are looking to hire a highly motivated Research Assistant I. We are dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias through our multidisciplinary approach to improved diagnosis and care, research (clinical trials and observational studies), and community outreach and education. This role will be responsible for engagement, recruitment, and enrollment of diverse participants into the APP cohort, an active registry of community members interested in learning more about Alzheimer's disease research, and participating in ongoing observational and

clinical research trials. Enrolling a diverse cohort of participants is critical for these studies, and this position will require spending time building relationships with underserved communities in the Boston area to engage residents with the study and enrollment in our research registry. We believe that these communities must be centered in the work we do.

This position will also be responsible for administering cognitive testing and questionnaires to APP study participants. This full-time position may require periodic evening and weekend hours. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Support efforts to increase participation from BWH clinic patients, both from the Lumbar Puncture clinic and BWH Behavioral Neurology.
* Work with community health centers and other organizations to promote the APP. Will liaise with members of various community agencies/ advisory boards to focus on recruiting participants from the diverse elderly population in the Greater Boston area.
* Working closely with the APP team and management to support relationships with community leaders and organizations.
* Will develop recruitment and retention materials and update online recruitment and retention sources.
* Will aid in the development of novel outreach methods to creatively engage diverse communities in the research process
* Conduct pre-screens with interested participants, either in-person or phone/video call, to assess initial eligibility for this study.
* Complete participant blood draws and sample processing (training will be provided)
* Work with other recruitment staff to obtain medical release forms and medical records for participants who meet initial eligibility criteria.
* Present metrics and analysis of recruitment efforts at meetings.
* Track and record engagement and enrollment activities in program-specific software. Responsible for data validation and quality control. Maintain updated patient information in recruitment REDCap and site-specific clinical trial management systems.
* Administer neuropsychological tests and questionnaires to participants.
* Will liaise with memory disorders clinics to recruit cognitively impaired participants and maintain contact with the referring physician's network regarding study status.
* May participate in engagement/outreach activities including, but not limited to, a) engaging with patients at Program tables at hospitals, community health centers and community-based events; b)communicating with patients in the clinical setting; and c) calling patients on the phone.
* Other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* B.A/B.S. with background in pre-med, psychology, neuroscience or related field required.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities
* Highly motivated, able to show initiative in his/her work.
* Willing to work with diverse and multicultural populations.
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
* High level of organization with attention to detail.
* High level of discretion, as some studies involve highly sensitive and private information.
* Ability to follow directions and protocol requirements.
* Well-developed computer skills.
* Comfort and/or experience with older participants and dementia patients is a plus.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal laboratory environment.

Radioactive and hazardous materials are used in some of the experiments conducted.

Animal and human tissue will be used.
