Applicants must have the desire to teach both practical nursing and associate degree nursing students using a culturally safe curriculum that recognizes the needs of Alaska Native people and rural communities.

THE UNIVERSITY: APU is a small, private liberal arts university, known for experiential and project-based learning. The university campus is in Anchorage, Alaska, a diverse city and home to more than 300,000 residents. APU offers a unique set of associate's, bachelor's, master's, and doctorate level degrees, with emphasis on Alaska-critical and globally relevant issues. As an Alaska Native-serving institution, APU embraces competency development and cultural relevancy throughout the curriculum, fostering high-level intellectual and practical skills, wide-ranging knowledge of science, cultures, and society, and an active commitment to personal and social responsibility. APU's main campus is in the UMED district of Anchorage, and the university had developed strong partnerships with nearby clinical partners to grow innovative programs that are responsive to the workforce needs of Alaska, in addition to educating Alaskan and Alaska Native professionals from within the state. https://www.alaskapacific.edu/

THE PROGRAM AREAS: APU currently offers the RN-to-BSN degree in a fully online asynchronous format and an associate degree in nursing program in a hybrid format and a hybrid LPN (Licensed Practical Nursing) program in four rural clinical sites. All programs are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). In addition to teaching, this position will assist with mentoring and advising students, curriculum evaluation and assessment, and maintaining accreditation standards. Along with other health-related and behavioral health programs, the nursing programs are housed in APU's Institute of Health & Wellness. The nursing programs utilize diverse delivery formats, and the foundation of the program is grounded in the principles of cultural safety and evidence-based practice. The goal of the program is to advance culturally safe nursing care and health outcomes for individuals, communities, and organizations.

DUTIES OF THE POSITION: The position is a 9-month contract, typically teaching 3-4 courses each semester. All faculty are encouraged to develop professional expertise or scholarship in their chosen field. Faculty expected to participate in outcomes assessment, curriculum development, advising, student activities, and other services to the university and broader community. This position may include travel to teach didactic and coordinate clinical nursing experiences in rural villages.
