NEPHROLOGIST

Austin TX USA, United States University of Texas at Austin Full time
The Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin is seeking an exceptional nephrologist to join the Division of Nephrology with the Department of Internal Medicine. Applicants should be eligible for appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level and should have experience in medical education, clinical program development, and scholarship. Applicants must be board-certified, or board eligible in Nephrology.

BACKGROUND

Dell Medical School (DMS) is the first medical school established in nearly five decades by a member of the Association of American Universities, an organization of leading public and private research universities. An extraordinary commitment of resources, both public and private, has been made to enable its development and success. The Dell Medical School enrolled its first class of 50 undergraduate medical students in June of 2016 and graduated its first class in 2020. As part of The University of Texas at Austin, one of the nation's leading research universities, the Dell Medical School pursues innovation in the re-design of healthcare delivery, excellence in healthcare research, and programs in interdisciplinary and inter-professional education.

Dell Medical School's mission is to revolutionize how people get and stay healthy by:

* Educating leaders who transform health care;
* Evolving new models of person-centered, multidisciplinary care that reward value;
* Advancing innovation from discovery to outcomes;
* Improving health in our community as a model for the nation; and
* Redesigning the academic health environment to better serve society.

The Department of Internal Medicine is home to 157 faculty, 68 residents, and 18 fellows per year, which includes a Primary Care Track and a Distinctions Track in Care Transformation, plus 5 preliminary interns in Medicine. We have fellowship training programs in Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Hematology and Oncology, Palliative Care, and Pulmonary/Critical Care.

The Department is comprised of 11 Divisions and collaborates closely with other Departments in the School of Medicine and across the UT Austin Campus. We are partnered with a number of care delivery organizations in the Austin / Travis County community, including the Seton-Ascension system, Community Care, Central Health and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The growing Division of Nephrology here at Dell Medical School aims to provide world-class clinical care. The division works to advance the field of Nephrology through community collaboration and training of new physician leaders. Housed within Department of Internal Medicine, the division of Nephrology works in collaboration with many specialties to ensure the highest quality of care for patients. The division is committed to meeting the expanding clinical needs of the central Texas region and providing the highest quality of patient centered care to our patients.

Dell Seton Medical Center (DSMC-UT) is a 210-bed, safety net, Level 1 Trauma Center, and serves as the primary inpatient training facility for our residents. Seton Medical Center of Austin is a 524-bed, tertiary regional referral center with advanced programs in several specialty areas including nephrology. In addition, the Division of Nephrology provides outpatient consultation and ongoing care to patients with kidney disease at the Community Care and Seton McCarthy Renal Clinics three to four half-days each week. Due to the increasing demand for nephrology care in our patient population, we are eager to open the new Central Health Rosewood-Zaragosa clinic where this position will provide care to patients with a broad spectrum of renal diseases.

Central Health, a separate political subdivision of the State of Texas, was created in 2004 by a vote of Travis County residents to function as the public hospital district serving the residents of Travis County. The boundaries of its health care service area and taxing jurisdiction are contiguous with Travis County. Central Health's mission is to improve the health of the community by caring for those who need it most. We are empowering communities with care by building a better healthcare system. The healthcare district is also indebted to the taxpayers of Travis County-who fund the majority of Central Health's budget-to operate in a fiscally responsible and transparent manner.

JOB SUMMARY

Development of a strong nephrology presence and infrastructure for care delivery, education, and research is essential for meeting the goals of Dell Medical School.

This position will provide direct patient care for vulnerable patient populations with kidney disease. The candidate will also work with the Dell Med and Central Health leadership in quality improvement projects, development of care models, and in medical education with an aim to meaningfully improve healthcare system processes and delivery of high value care for vulnerable patients in Travis County. This position will also include working with students, residents, and fellows.
