Responsibilities include carefully selecting products through strong partnerships, design, and procurement to meet customer demands. Furniture Buyers are responsible for boosting omnichannel sales, margin, turn, and overall growth, aligning with the company's broader objectives. This role involves overseeing pre-season and in-season assortment development, including selection, strategic planning, and pricing execution.The ideal Furniture Buyer is passionate about design, product, and fashion, dedicated to meeting customer demands. They are trusted, collaborative, results-oriented leaders, recognized for their ability to drive change and establish industry credibility. Adaptability to navigate complexity is crucial, requiring prompt assessment, analysis, and adjustment of approaches to align with current strategy. The preferred candidate has a visionary perspective, capable of conceptualizing, developing, and executing a strategic vision.What You Will DoCollaborate with the Trend Research & Forecasting team to identify key trends for market preparation and assortment needs.Work closely with suppliers to develop products that align with Macy's trends, maintain competitive advantage, and meet financial objectives.Utilize design knowledge to ensure the desired outcome of Macy’s products.Evaluate upcoming season trends in partnership with the Trend Research & Forecasting team and key vendors, recommending key trends and opportunities.Interact with fabric suppliers to compile a list of preferred fabrics for our designers.Lead the product development process with suppliers and the team to achieve the desired assortment architecture.Manage timelines and ensure the execution of specification requirements and validation.Validate all costs to negotiate the correct cost, Minimum Cost Decision Level (MCDL), conveyability status, and Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ).Lead the team in evaluating product management and sample accuracy, maintaining sample records.Manage the development of the assortment, including selection and strategies that align with the overall assortment vision and maximize sales, margin, and turnover.Cultivate strong vendor relationships and maintain an industry presence to foster connections, new business opportunities, and ideas at Macy's, while representing and supporting the Macy's brand.Conduct regular meetings with vendors to discuss current business and plan for the future.Develop trusting and collaborative relationships with the supplier community in partnership with the Trend Research & Forecasting team.Establish a pre-season assortment vision aligned with company priorities and insights from Digital, Private Brands, and Integrated Planning.Conduct comparative shopping at key competitors and prepare a report for the category.Partner with Financial Planning and Assortment Planning & Allocation to ensure department-level financial targets support assortment strategy.Collaborate with Private Brands and Assortment Planning & Allocation teams to develop assortment architecture vision, guide product development strategy, identify color/sizing opportunities, test new products/categories, and align on marketing/digital strategy.Make in-season changes for the department and vendors based on sales, margin, and turn forecasts from Financial Planning.Present ROF strategy and plan for problem resolution.Review category, class, and item performance analysis conducted by Associate and Assistant Buyers and determine in-season item-level changes and reorder opportunities.Set pre-season pricing strategy with input from Digital and partner with Pricing partners on in-season adjustments.Collaborate with Marketing and Digital teams to set content and promotional strategies, including FOB events.Coordinate vendor marketing and co-op requests, collaborating with Marketing and incorporating input from Digital.Develop and lead pre-season and in-season merchandising vision and strategy to create a seamless shopping experience for customers both in stores and online.Maximize sales, margin, and turn by establishing and communicating a store merchandising strategy that optimizes presentation and salability.Skills You Will NeedFinancial Acumen: Ability to understand and analyze financial aspects to make informed strategic decisions.Retail Strategy and Tactics: In-depth knowledge of market trends, customer behaviors, and competitive landscapes.Leadership and Team Management: Capability to lead a team leveraging upward and cross functional influence, fostering collaboration and building trust with a focus on achieving results.Change Management: Comfort and effectiveness in leading teams through change ensuring successful adaptation.Visionary Thinking: Ability to be a forward thinking and innovative leader with a vision to drive transformative strategies propelling family of business to new heights. Communication Skills: Effective communication with candor, valuing open debate to bring the best ideas to life.Growth Mindset: A growth-oriented mindset, coupled with the ability to coach teams in embracing growth opportunities.Strategic Planning: Experience in driving strategies and plans supporting a compelling core and curated assortment.Collaboration and Coordination: Skill in partnering closely with General Merchandise Managers (GMMs) and Digital Directors for coordination and alignment across digital strategy and families of business.Knowledge of product design + engineering: Ability to view design drawings and images to make recommendations.Who You AreDedicated to fulfilling ideals of diversity, inclusion, and respect that Macy’s aspires to achieve every day in every way.Candidates with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply.Regularly required to sit, talk, hear;
