HJF is seeking a Research Associate II to conduct qualitative and quantitative research in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. The individual may lend expertise in the design, execution, and interpretation of military research studies. Research will align with the mission of CHAMP, as described below.

This position will be in support of This position will be in support of Consortium for Health and Military Performance (CHAMP) in the Department of Military and Emergency Medicine (MEM) at the Uniformed Services University (USU), Bethesda, MD. CHAMP's mission is to enhance warfighter readiness through evidence-based human performance optimization knowledge, guidance, and operational support. CHAMP aims to be DoD's best resource for evidence-based information on human performance optimization (HPO) to improve the performance and resilience of our service members and their families

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

Responsibilities

* Assists with recruitment and enrollment of participants for research studies. This may include travel to study performance sites.
* Collects, organizes, and manages primarily qualitative data for research studies regarding service members experience with musculoskeletal injuries in collaboration with the study team (e.g., individual interviews, focus groups, survey-based methods). This may include travel to study performance sites.
* Performs qualitative data analyses to support research studies (e.g., transcription, coding, identifying themes, etc.).
* Prepares regulatory documents with guidance from the Principal Investigator (e.g., protocols, consent forms) for the required Institutional Review Board(s) for approvals and maintains regulatory compliance (e.g., continuing reviews, adverse event reporting).
* May perform limited basic quantitative data analyses as needed.
* May participate in research collaborations with other research groups within CHAMP.
* Assists in the writing of abstracts, research reports, and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
* May presents research findings at local, regional, national, and/or international scientific and clinical meetings and to military leadership
* May assist in preparation of grant proposals involving qualitative or mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative) designs.
* May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Knowledge and experience with qualitative research methods and associated software (e.g., NVIVO, MAXQDA)
* Knowledge and experience with basic quantitative research methods and associated software (e.g., R, SPSS, SAS, etc.)
* Ability to translate data analysis findings into written and oral communications (e.g., abstracts, manuscripts, reports, and presentations)
* Knowledge/expertise in human health and/or performance, such as kinesiology, musculoskeletal health/athletic training, performance psychology, or exercise physiology.
* Ability to work well independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Must be fastidiously organized.
* Experience with working with various military environments.

* This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

Education and Experience

* Master's Degree
* Minimum of 3-5 years' experience required
* Training and experience with qualitative research methods
