About the Position

We are seeking an experienced, data-driven, and compassionate educator to join our team as a Reading Interventionist. This position is a 1.0 FTE position for August 2024 through June 2025. Candidates should hold one of the following CT certifications: Reading & Language Arts Consultant (097), Remedial Reading & Remedial Language Arts (102), Special Teacher of Reading (063) or certification with an English endorsement or evidence of eligibility is required.

Salary is commensurate with Common Ground High School Educator Salary Scale. Placement on that salary scale will take prior work, relevant experience in consideration. Staff members at Common Ground are represented by UAW local 2110 with a collective bargaining agreement in progress.

The Reading Interventionist will:
  • Provide reading intervention for high school students to include: re-teaching of concepts, organizational strategies, and collaboration with Language Arts teachers.

  • Develop materials and lesson plans, conduct small-group instruction, and evaluate and assess student performance.

  • Utilize research-based strategies and resources to ground and evaluate the intervention program at Common Ground.

  • Support teachers in delivery of effective literacy strategies and instruction.

  • Progress monitor student reading growth: set student goals and instructional outcomes and monitor based on student assessments in reading.

  • Use assessments to diagnose reading strengths and weaknesses, and match skills with appropriate techniques.

  • Prepare and maintain all records and reports

  • Manage subscriptions and student licenses for intervention programs

  • Promote the engagement of families in their student’s educational progress.

We are looking for Reading Interventionist candidates who demonstrate some or all of the following:
  • The candidate must possess a strong knowledge base in literacy intervention and be experienced with a wide range of literacy interventions.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of current trends and research related to the theory and practice of intervention in literacy.

  • Prior experience working with ELL students.

  • Demonstrated success in delivering effective reading intervention for middle or high school aged students.

  • Ability to analyze student data to make informed recommendations for literacy instruction.

  • Demonstrated success of managing student behavior and classroom routines to maximize learning time and create a positive classroom environment.

  • Prior experience and positive record of collaborating with school staff.

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed instruction and possesses a belief that all students can learn and be successful.

  • A passion for our social justice mission and commitment to equitable and sustainable change
