REPORTS TO: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF STUDENT AFFAIRS (EDSA)

STATUS: PART-TIME, EXEMPT, HOURLY, 12 MONTH

Lake Erie College, a small, co-educational, four-year, independent liberal arts college located in Painesville, OH, 30 miles east of Cleveland, invites applications for the part-time position of Resident Director. The Resident Director (RD) is a part-time live-in position that reports directly to the Executive Director of Student Affairs (EDSA). As a member of the Student Affairs staff, the RD is responsible for the general welfare of all students by achieving program excellence and innovation, strengthening campus culture, and optimizing resources. The RD staff members are expected to positively influence, contribute to, and improve the quality of life of the student population through programming, enforcing college policies and procedures, and forming personal relationships with each student in their residential community. This is a live-in position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Manages a residential living community ranging from 120-250 residents varying from residence hall living to apartment living
* Trains, supervises, and evaluates a team of 3-5 Resident Assistant (RA) staff members.
* Participates in 24-hour on-call responsibilities along with fellow RDs (including break periods) and submit daily on-call reports to the EDSA.
* Facilitates weekly RA staff meetings and bi-weekly RA 1:1 meetings, submit RA 1:1 reports.
* Attends weekly RD staff meetings and weekly 1:1 meetings with the EDSA.
* Serves as the liaison between the residential students and the EDSA and the Student Experience Suite.
* Assists in the training, selection, and evaluation of the RA staff
* Facilitates the residential check-in and check-out processes
* Oversees daily RA duty logs and time off requests.
* Provides crisis intervention when needed, assist students with personal and emotional concerns, and make appropriate referrals.
* Intercedes regarding policy violations and make appropriate referrals.
* Provides sensitive, responsive, and well-informed guidance to residents regarding individual and collective concerns.
* Be visible and accessible as a resource to residents within your community.
* Represents the Student Experience Suite at College functions and events.
* Maintains weekly office hours within the Student Experience Suite, 15 to 20 hours per week.
* Assists in the supervision of the summer RA staff.
* Assists with the check-in and check-out process from residential buildings including end-of-year closing, summer housing transition, and non-LEC affiliated groups/summer camps.
* Supervises summer student worker staff and lead these individuals in the completion of special projects, including but not limited to an assessment of rooms and common spaces in the residence halls and apartments, replacement and installation of apartment amenities, and moving furniture.
* Other duties as assigned by Executive Director of Student of the position.

Student Conduct & Community Standards responsibilities:

* Assists students with personal and emotional concerns, making appropriate referrals, if necessary
* Helps facilitate new student orientation sessions for summer, fall, and spring
* Communicates with incoming students to ensure necessary paperwork is turned in.
* Assists with the planning and implementation of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging programs, events, workshops and more
* Enforces College policies and address student handbook violations
* Serves as a conduct case coordinator and facilitate roommate mediations as needed
* Serves as a liaison between the Student Experience Suite and residential students with regards to community fines and sanctions
* Facilitates and participate in training for students, faculty, and staff when applicable

Campus Engagement responsibilities:

* Co-coordinates large-scale College traditions including but not limited to Homecoming Week, Family Weekend Field Day, Mountain Day, Senior Week, Late Night Breakfast, Welcome Week, and Orientation.
* Co-coordinates large-scale Student Experience Suite programs such as Casino Night, Intramural Program, Alcohol & Drug Awareness Week, Health & Wellness Week, Leadership Development Week, Bystander Awareness Week
* Coordinates community service opportunities both campus-wide and with the Resident Assistants
* Creates programs to assist specific populations including (but not limited to) commuter students, graduate students, first-generation students, NCAA student-athletes, international students, etc.
* Assess student programming interests and needs and perform semester evaluations of programs and events
* Assists with the scheduling and care of Stormy mascot
* Collaborates with other offices for programming purposes such as Office of Residence Life & Housing, Academic Affairs, Career Services, Financial Aid, Athletics, etc.

Housing Operations responsibilities:

* Maintains the housing maintenance email and ticket submission system.
* Submits maintenance requests promptly and conduct efficient follow-up regarding maintenance concerns and maintain correspondence with students regarding maintenance concerns.
* Manages keys and conduct key audits each academic semester.
* Tracks all College furniture within the residential buildings and conduct audits as needed.
* Coordinates the completion of Room Condition Reports and maintain follow-up accordingly.
* Coordinates monthly Health and Safety Inspections facilitated by the RA staff and conducts necessary follow up.
* Coordinates break housing, including communication with students regarding break requests.
* Assists with housing selection and placement and assist with roommate matching as needed.
* Tracks and maintains data related to waitlists, room re-assignments, keys, and RCRs.
* Maintains residential student housing files and roster information.
* Flex time is available during the academic year as schedules allow.

Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor's degree required (currently enrolled in a graduate degree-seeking program preferred).
* Valid driver's license.
* Valid background check.
* Strong communication, computer, and organizational skills.
* Demonstrates initiative and is solution oriented.
* Conflict mediation knowledge.
* Enthusiasm and willingness to develop, initiate, and actively participate.
* Engages in collaborative partnership with the Student Affairs team and other College stakeholders.
