Duties * You will install and repair carpet, linoleum, and/or similar floor coverings such as asphalt, rubber or vinyl tile. * You will remove old floor covering from floors, and clean the surface by sanding, chipping or other means and fill up voids with mortar. * You will spread tile cement, cut, fit and lay asphalt and vinyl floor tiles. * You will study blueprints, work sketches or specifications to determine kind of material to be used. Requirements Conditions of Employment * Must be a US Citizen. * Must be determined suitable for federal employment. * Must participate in the direct deposit pay program. * New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of the FLOOR COVERER position without more than normal supervision: 1) Installing various types of carpets, linoleum and/or tiles;2) Reading blueprints in order to plan and perform work to floors; 3) Calculating measurements to estimate the material needed; and 4) Using tools such as hammers, chisels, combers, brushes, pneumatic and electrical tools. The work requires considerable stoops, kneels and crouches for long periods of time. Lifts, carries, grasps, pushes, pulls, and lies prone at times when working in close spaces. Working Conditions: The work is both indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather and is exposed to dampness, dust, irritating and obnoxious fume when applying bonding material. The shops maybe noisy. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled.
