The Senior Desktop Engineer will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and enhancing the company s desktop infrastructure. This role includes the design, implementation, and support of desktop solutions to ensure optimal performance, security, and usability for end-users. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with desktop engineering, possess strong problem-solving skills, and demonstrate leadership in project management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Implementation:
    • Develop and implement desktop solutions, including operating systems, software applications, and hardware configurations.
    • Design and deploy desktop images and manage the imaging process using tools such as Microsoft SCCM, MDT, or similar.
  • Maintenance and Support:
    • Provide advanced technical support for desktop-related issues, escalating to other IT teams as necessary.
    • Ensure the stability, security, and performance of the desktop environment through regular maintenance and updates.
    • Perform root cause analysis for desktop-related issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Security:
    • Implement and manage security protocols and tools to protect desktop environments from vulnerabilities and threats.
    • Ensure compliance with security policies and procedures, including encryption, antivirus, and patch management.
  • Project Management:
    • Lead and participate in desktop engineering projects, ensuring timely completion and alignment with business goals.
    • Collaborate with other IT teams and departments to deliver integrated solutions and services.
  • Documentation and Training:
    • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for desktop configurations, processes, and procedures.
    • Provide training and support to junior IT staff and end-users on desktop-related topics and best practices.
  • Innovation and Improvement:
    • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and tools to enhance the desktop environment.
    • Continuously improve desktop engineering processes and workflows for efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience:
    • 5+ years of experience in desktop engineering or a related IT field.
    • Proven experience with desktop management tools (e.g., SCCM, MDT, Intune).
    • Experience with Windows and macOS operating systems.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, VBScript, or Python.
    • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP.
    • Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, and other directory services.
    • Familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Leadership skills with the ability to manage and mentor junior staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate, CompTIA A+, or equivalent.
  • Experience with mobile device management (MDM) solutions.
  • Knowledge of Linux desktop environments.
