Duties * You will analyze, repair and adjust hydraulic systems such as brakes and forklifts and bulldozer blade lifting mechanisms and replaces or adjusts worn and defective parts. * You will use micrometers, calipers, and many other precision type tools to make measurements fits to very close tolerances. Occasionally, required to design and fabricate special tools, hydraulic lines or wiring harness to complete repair. * You will utilize hydraulic and air gauges, volt meters, ammeters, ohm meters, and other testing devices to diagnose cause of trouble and determine. * You will install electrical units such as starters, generators, voltage regulators, lights, ampere meters, voltmeters, batteries, and other accessories. * You will examine brushes, armatures, field coils and bearings; and make minor repairs such as replacing brushes, sanding commutators and undercutting mica. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing. * You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases. * You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. * This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. * You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Class B Commercial Drivers' License with P (passenger), N (tank), and T (trailer) endorsements. * Must be able to successfully complete the following training courses within prescribed timeframe: Certification as a Certified Federal Fleet Specialist (CFFS) or other federal equivalent within 3 years of appointment. * You will be required to work at a job site or location other than a permanently assigned location. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Performing the full range of repairing, rebuilding, overhauling and modifying large and complex heavy mobile equipment; 2) Disassembling, inspecting, and assembling large and complex engines; 3) Repairing, overhauling and rebuilding large gasoline or diesel engines; 4) Using diagnostic equipment to determine reasons for mechanical defects or mechanical performance problems in the absence of technical guidelines; 5) Developing and improvising methods, altering parts, and making repairs in the absence of technical guidelines.
