This Strategic Communication Specialist is with the Office of Trade within U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), in the Washington, D.C. offices of the Executive Assistant Commissioner (EAC), Strategic Messaging Branch. ***Eligibility: This opportunity is open to Veterans with VEOA status; current federal employees with competitive status within the local commuting area (LCA); and current and former Land Management employees with status under the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act within the LCA. The Office of Trade is the architect of the most robust customs system in the world and the second-largest revenue source for the U.S. Government. Our expertise in the trade community allows us to lead the development of streamlined and efficient processes that provide certainty for legitimate importers while combatting transnational crime. In this position, you will provide strategic communication, administrative, and policy development support and assist with the facilitation of the execution of communication products and program operations. Major duties for this position include but are not limited to:
• Meeting with middle and upper-level managers within the program office to understand organizational needs and to develop strategic recommendations and plans, appropriate communication artifacts, process documents, and other written materials that clarify policy guidance for internal processes and programs.
• Planning and developing strategic communications products, to include a broad range of documents such as fact sheets, briefing memos, and more for internal audiences within the Office of Trade and other government agencies, as well as materials for external audiences, including the media, industry, and the general public.
• Providing, overseeing, and supporting in implementing, coordinating, and executing a variety of communication program-related activities affecting the agency. Salary and Benefits
This position starts at a salary of $99,200.00 (GS-12, Step 1) to $153,354.00 (GS-13, Step 10) with promotion potential to $153,354.00 (GS-13, Step 10). Qualifications
This position will be filled at either the GS-12 or GS-13 grade level, depending upon the qualifications of the applicants. Experience: You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
• Providing administrative oversight with responsibility for day-to-day administrative functions related to the program's strategic communications and internal process development efforts.
• Ensuring that accurate and appropriately concise and timely information is available to executive management.
• Ensuring that the program processes and guidance are clearly communicated.
Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
• Reviewing internal policies and processes to ensure that they are current and making updates or recommendations to higher-level supervisors or managers.
• Explaining complex and/or technical subject matter and distilling information into easily understood key points.
• Overseeing the implementation of higher-level policies and guidance and making recommendations to improve processes or adapt guidance for specific situations.
