As a Senior Software Engineer, you will contribute to a global team that will create high quality products that meet rigid safety and airworthiness standards for flight surveillance and communication. Our department continues to push the technology envelope for processing technologies in everything from operating systems to avionics applications and the middleware which binds these together. WHAT YOU WILL DO: 

  • Lead the design, development, and maintaining of flight-critical embedded software for commercial and military avionics supporting programs such as B737/B767, Airbus A220, Bombardier, Embraer and many other platforms. 

  • Develop and maintain a backlog of work for the team as well as bidding and pursuing future work opportunities for the team. 

  • Lead an engineering team by organizing tasks, coordinating team efforts, asking questions, communicating status, raising issues, brainstorming ideas, helping others, practicing active listening, and promoting a collaborative environment. 

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:   

  • You will learn the technologies of today and tomorrow which we count on to maintain world leadership in the avionics industry. 

  • You will learn all phases of the software product life cycle from requirements through to verification, while employing the company software engineering processes to produce high quality products. 

  • You will learn the artifacts and aspects of product certification required by federal agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS YOU MUST HAVE: 

  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.  

  • Working knowledge of assembly C, C++, Python/Perl scripting Language.   

  • Knowledge of designing Device drivers and hardware-software integration.  

  • Experience developing software systems using object-oriented design principles. 

QUALIFICATIONS WE PREFER:  

  • Network protocol knowledge and Real Time Operating System knowledge. 

  • Knowledge of aircraft systems (Data Link, RTSA EICAS, CDU, FDSA, FMS,, etc.) and their function in the aircraft. 

  • Knowledge of air/ground messaging and related data link protocols (ARINC 619, ARINC 618). 

  • Knowledge of A661 and A739 HMI display standards. 

  • Knowledge of D0-178B/C, DO-200, and DO-330 certification processes.  

  • Ability to drive consensus and change across a complex matrixed organization. 

  • Innate leadership qualities and ability to manage adversity and challenging situations. 

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve operational goals.

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.
