The Computing Products Department (CPD) has an opening for a Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer. This department is responsible for the development and sustainment of state-of-the-art avionics hardware products including integrated processing cabinets, displays, video processing modules, and control panels used in military fighter, fixed-wing, and rotary wing aircraft platforms.

Our products employ the following technologies and interfaces; Airborne Electronic Hardware including FPGAs and ASICs. PowerPC, Intel, and ARM embedded processing resources. Avionics interfaces including ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, and Ethernet. Video interfaces including SMPTE, DVI, and DisplayPort.

Responsibilities include ruggedized mission computer and display level product development, circuit card and sub-level module development, product qualification, product transition, and product sustainment over the life cycle of the design. The Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer role also has opportunities for project engineering and control account management (PE/CAM), and has high expectations for leadership within a design team, and communication with internal and external customers.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

  • Hardware requirements development including working with systems and subsystems teams to determine meaningful and testable requirements for the design
  • Experience working with standard lab equipment for integration testing of hardware designs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Schematic capture of digital/analog mixed signal electrical circuit designs
  • Printed board (PWB) layout expertise
  • Interfacing with complex embedded devices (microprocessors, graphics processors, memory)
  • Digital logic device development (including FPGA and ASIC development)
  • Formal qualification experience (preferred DO-160 or MIL-STD-810/MIL-STD-461 standards)
  • Understanding of Design to Cost (DTC+), Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Test (DFT)

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
