We are seeking candidates for the position of Engineer III (1021) in the B&B/Transit Facilities.

Starting Salary: $84,864
Additional $5,000 salary increase for having a Pennsylvania PE License.

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

Utilizing knowledge gained from three years of engineering experience, this position is responsible for undertaking engineering/quality assurance assignments that are considered to be of "basic complexity" in size and scope. This position is further responsible to provide technical support and direction for engineering/quality assurance activities including the definition and coordination for design review and implementation, establishing inspection plans, program/project development and consulting, statistical methods, audits, and continuous improvement approaches to ensure activities are consistent with SEPTA mission values and goals.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Documents for record all major design concepts, approaches and agreements made with any and all parties involved in the project. Assists Project Engineering with preparation of reports relating to progress of the work and the Contractor's compliance with progress schedule, shop drawings, and other submittals. Assists Project Engineer in project management tasks. Maintains a diary or log book to record Contractor manpower and hours on the job site; weather conditions; data relative to work directive changes, change orders or, changed conditions; list of job site visitors, daily activities, decisions, and observations in general. Assists Project Manager during the procurement and/or construction stage of a project. This includes project management, construction management, and coordination with governmental agencies and SEPTA’s Operating departments. Assists Project Manager in project management tasks. Consults with supervisors concerning unusual problems, developments, contractual and policy matters. Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities. Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • B. S. Degree in Engineering, Architecture or Construction Management and three (3) years of satisfactory progressive relevant work performance that indicates that the individual can perform the technical and supervisory responsibilities of the position.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Previous relevant transit experience within the engineering discipline preferred (e.g., transit automotive or railroad mechanical equipment, transit infrastructure and/or transit operations).
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
