What a Cell Operator will do:
  • Tend to one or more machine tools, special-purpose machines, or industrial robots to machine metal work pieces to specifications on a production basis
  • Read blueprint or job order for product specifications, such as dimensions and tolerances, and tooling instructions, such as fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, and depth of cut, and determine the sequence of operations
  • Select, position, and secure the tool in the tool holder (chuck, collet, or tool post)
  • Identify (including nonconforming dimensions) and separate all nonconforming parts
  • Seal parts with rust preventative, as required
  • Produce parts at a rate that meets or exceeds accepted production standards
  • Perform accurate inspections required by the print/job sheet using measuring instruments such as, micrometers, dial indicators, and gauges to measure workpiece for conformation to specifications
  • Notify the lead and/or supervisor of discrepancies
  • Perform secondary operations and inspections, including deburring and cleaning parts produced, as cycle time permits
  • Count finished parts and pack them neatly into a clean container
  • Enter the required data into the computer
  • Keep machine and tools clean, properly lubricated, and in good operating condition
What you need to be a Cell Operator:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3+ months of relative experience and/or training
  • Ability to measure components and assemblies to verify conformance to the print (tape measure, scale, caliper)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, including a basic understanding of various types of tools used in the machining process
  • Knowledge of gases and power sources used in the welding process
  • Ability to read and interpret load-out list, shipment schedule, and all other related work documents
