About the Role: 

Vimaan is seeking skilled and enthusiastic summer interns to join the team of in-house 3D Geometric Computer Vision experts in the development and implementation of advanced algorithms for our state-of-the-art warehouse inventory products. This role involves working on the development and implementation of Python-based modules and pipelines to be deployed on both server and edge-based platforms and requires thinking out-of-the-box to build modules that are both optimal and efficient.  


Responsibilities: 

  • Design and implement algorithms for the acquisition, processing, and analysis of 2D/3D spatial data, including point clouds and depth maps, to support applications in computer vision, 3D reconstruction, and geometric modeling. 
  • Contribute to the development of machine learning models for object detection, segmentation, and classification within spatial datasets to enhance perception and understanding of complex environments. 
  • Participate in the creation of innovative solutions for localization and navigation challenges using computer vision and 2D/3D spatial data. 
  • Implement sensor fusion techniques combining data from cameras, LiDARs, depth sensors, and other modalities. 
  • Assist in the integration of computer vision and spatial data processing pipelines with real-time systems, focusing on optimization techniques to ensure efficient data handling and computation. 
  • Create robust sensor calibration routines that perform reliably in complex and unpredictable environments. 
  • Collaborate on interdisciplinary projects, applying principles from computer vision, robotics, 3D geometry and applied mathematics to solve practical problems in industry. 
  • Explore and evaluate new technologies and methodologies in 3D data processing, contributing to the team's knowledge base and sharing insights through documentation and presentations. 


Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Computer Science, Robotics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field, with a strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and linear algebra. 
  • Demonstrated experience with spatial data processing, computer vision, or 3D reconstruction through academic projects, internships, or coursework. 
  • Strong proficiency in Python or C++ and familiarity with libraries and frameworks such as OpenCV, Open3D, or PCL. 
  • Basic understanding of machine learning principles and their application to spatial data analysis. 
  • Exposure to software development practices and tools, including version control with Git and CI/CD workflows. 
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary fast-paced team environment. 
  • Initiative and creativity in problem-solving, with a passion for emerging technologies in computer vision and spatial data engineering. 


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Hands-on experience with depth sensors, LiDAR, or photogrammetry for 3D data acquisition. 
  • Participation in projects or competitions related to autonomous vehicles, robotics, or similar areas where spatial data plays a crucial role. 
  • Knowledge of optimization techniques for real-time data processing and experience with GPU programming for computational efficiency. 
  • Exposure to SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) or other techniques for navigation and mapping using 2D and 3D data. 
  • Strong interest in contributing to open-source projects or a portfolio of personal projects showcasing innovative uses of spatial data. 


Note: This is an on-site internship (not remote/hybrid) and will require the candidate to report in person at Vimaan's HQ at San Jose, California.
