Job Description

My client is seeking a Controls Engineer to collaborate with a highly experienced team dedicated to industrializing the next generation of lithium-ion battery manufacturing technologies. The company is focused on positioning itself as an industry-leading turn-key equipment provider to battery cell manufacturers across the globe.. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing, implementing, and troubleshooting control systems for industrial applications. The role will include two primary functions:

  • Hardware selection and software development for control systems of custom designed equipment
  • SCADA and data architecture development for process, product, and analytical data pipelines

The controls engineer will interface regularly with mechanical design and process development engineers to ensure robust system design. The controls engineer will be instrumental in building highly effective manufacturing machinery and supporting operational development. Experience in high volume industrial manufacturing is preferred, as knowledge of functional systems will help guide development decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop PLC programs for automation and controls systems
  • Configure and program SCADA systems for monitoring and supporting technology development
  • Develop HMIs to support site wide R&D and process development functions
  • Collaborate with process development and design engineers to gather requirements and define system specifications
  • Implement control strategies to optimize production processes and improve efficiency of cutting-edge manufacturing equipment
  • Work with external equipment vendors to align controls development strategy with AMB requirements
  • Conduct testing and validation of control systems to ensure reliability and functionality
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise for deployed equipment
  • Participate in commissioning and startup activities for new internal and external projects
  • Document control system designs, configurations, and procedures
  • Support SQL database systems data storage and retrieval of manufacturing and development data
  • Utilize Python (or other applicable software) for scripting, data analysis, and automation tasks

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with industrial controls and automation
  • Familiarity with industrial control networks and field devices (PLC, HMI, power supplies, drives, sensors, actuators, etc.)
  • Understanding of industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, etc.)
  • Proficiency in SCADA software platforms (Ignition preferred)
  • Familiarity with HMI development and interface design
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and safety protocols for industrial automation
  • Demonstrated experience solving real world problems with technical solutions
  • Experience engaging with vendors and utilizing remote technical support
  • Experience generating, modifying, and/or referencing equipment electrical schematics
  • Experience working with SQL databases for data storage and retrieval
  • Proficiency in Python programming for scripting and automation tasks
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment
  • Effective communication skills for collaborations with internal and external stakeholders
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in relevant engineering field
