Contracts Specialist – Houston, TX


Our client is seeking a Contracts Specialist to work within their facilities located in Houston, TX, for an initial 1-year assignment.

Manage a portfolio of low to mid complex contracts with a priority to provide efficient and accurate contract support to internal customers, i.e. $0 to $5mil, low to mid risk exposure. This position requires an individual with a contracts management background, project management skills (including communication and organizational skills), and the technical expertise necessary to manage a portfolio of contracts with minimal lead oversight or engagement.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments (legal, insurance, HSSE, etc.) to draft, negotiate and administer a wide range of contracts with a focus on low to mid risk/complex contracts with low to mid financial obligations (approx. $0 to $5mil); to include, but not limited to, professional services, IT software/hardware and HR staffing agreements.
  • Ensure accurate execution, documentation and maintenance of contract agreements (e.g. SaaS, MSAs, CSAs, TAs) are within Company contract management system (CMS).
  • Oversee ongoing contract administration of submittals, regulatory compliance, performance milestones, performance requirements, notifications, etc. Assure contract terms, commitments and notifications, such as notices, payment schedules and terms, contract terminations and renewals, invoice provisions, cost limitations, etc. are completed as required in a timely manner. Identify linkages between key agreements.
  • Resolve and mitigate commercial issues that may arise with the contract administration process. Contribute with the development of procedures that identify and mitigate risks associated with contracts in a manner that ensures business practices comply with Company policies while meeting business objectives.
  • Participate and assist in project review meetings with management team and provide information regarding contract requirements, including risk interfaces, contract amendments and/or contract assignments, and dispute resolution.
  • Follow and abide by Company based policies and procedures for contract audit-ability and management; including standard contract templates, risk interfaces, and current procedures.
  • Develop and execute Request for Information, Quotation or Proposal (RFX) events, to include analyzing proposals, negotiating provisions and pricing, and cross-functionally collaborating with stakeholders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).


Required Skills:

  • Experience with Contract Management Systems, to include cross-functionally authoring, editing and executing contracts within the system.
  • Software skills needed to be used in extracting information from various sources, conducting analysis and assisting Supply Management team to achieve goals.
  • Effective project management skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Value teamwork, diversity and integrity.
  • Solid knowledge of procurement and document control.
  • Strong Communication Skills (verbal, written, and interpersonal).


Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain or related field required
  • At least 3 years or more of contract authoring, negotiating, executing and management required.
  • Ariba/SAP or Microsoft Office 365 Experience (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) preferred.
