Senior RF Test Engineer

Position Summary:
We are seeking a Senior RF Test Engineer for a hybrid contract/CTH opportunity in Longmont, CO. In this role, you’ll act as an expert on all test aspects of space hardware, with a strong emphasis on RF testing. You’ll collaborate across engineering teams, supporting junior engineers while planning, coordinating, and troubleshooting test campaigns. The ideal candidate will have significant prior experience in the space sector, with expertise in RF antenna, deployable structures, solar arrays, or mechanisms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage flight hardware test documents from concept to execution across multiple projects.
- Collaborate with Systems Engineering to develop test requirements and verification methods.
- Interface with customers, negotiate test requirements, and communicate test progress.
- Represent test engineering at major program milestones, including Test Readiness Reviews.
- Plan and perform RF performance and environmental testing, including vibration, thermal cycling, thermal vacuum, and functional tests.
- Improve test capabilities and collaborate with teams across the business.
- Lead test engineers on complex projects with minimal supervision.
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related discipline with 10+ years of industry experience.
- Master’s or PhD degree in a related field may substitute for 2 years of experience.
- Hands-on experience with space, small satellites, and/or space-based deployable structures.
- Experience with RF performance and environmental testing (vibration, shock, thermal cycling, thermal-vacuum).
- Expertise in writing test plans, procedures, and reports for major projects.
- Experience leading project stage-gate meetings and interfacing with customers.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience testing antennas/microwave communication systems.
- Background in composites design, analysis, and manufacturing.
- Familiarity with NASA/SMC standards such as GSFC-STD-7000A (GEVS).
- Proficiency in CAD for designing mechanical systems and test fixturing.
- Knowledge of structural and metrology test methods.
- Experience with LabVIEW, data acquisition equipment, and test-analysis correlation.
- Familiarity with solar cell testing and cleanroom protocols is a plus.
- Experience leading and mentoring junior engineers.
