Seeking a highly skilled Director of Construction in New York to oversee and manage high-end residential construction projects. The Director of Construction will manage a team of construction professionals, collaborate with architects, designers, and clients, and ensure that each project is completed to the highest standards of quality, design, and craftsmanship.

Description

The key responsibilities of the Director of Construction:

  • Leadership and Management:

    • Lead and supervise a team of project managers, site supervisors, and support staff specializing in high-end residential building and construction.
    • Provide mentorship, training, and professional development opportunities to team members, ensuring continuous improvement and growth.
    • Manage team performance, allocate resources, and maintain an efficient project workflow to ensure deadlines are met and client expectations are exceeded.
  • Project Oversight:

    • Oversee the complete lifecycle of high-end residential construction projects, including initial planning, budgeting, design collaboration, and final completion.
    • Ensure that all projects align with design specifications, material quality, and luxury standards while maintaining timelines and budgets.
    • Coordinate and collaborate with architects, interior designers, engineers, subcontractors, and clients to ensure seamless project execution.
    • Address and resolve any project issues, delays, or unforeseen challenges in a timely and professional manner.
  • Client Relationship Management:

    • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, providing regular updates, responding to inquiries, and ensuring the highest level of customer satisfaction throughout the project.
    • Develop strong, lasting relationships with clients, understanding their vision and translating it into high-quality, customized construction solutions.
    • Coordinate site meetings and ensure client expectations are consistently managed and met during every phase of construction.
  • Budget and Financial Management:

    • Oversee the preparation, approval, and management of project budgets, ensuring cost control and tracking expenses throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Manage project finances, including vendor negotiations, material procurement, and subcontractor agreements, ensuring the best value without compromising quality.
    • Implement cost-saving strategies where possible while maintaining the luxury and high-quality standards expected by clients.
  • Quality Control and Attention to Detail:

    • Ensure the highest quality craftsmanship and attention to detail in every aspect of the construction process, from foundation to finishes.
    • Regularly inspect the quality of work performed by subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to maintain the high standards required for luxury residential properties.
    • Implement rigorous quality control processes and resolve any defects or issues promptly to ensure flawless final results.
  • Safety and Compliance:

    • Establish and enforce safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment on-site, in line with industry standards and regulations.
    • Stay up to date with local building codes, zoning regulations, and compliance requirements, ensuring all projects are legally compliant.
    • Conduct regular safety audits and on-site inspections to mitigate risks and ensure the wellbeing of workers and subcontractors.

Profile

The successful Director of Construction:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in luxury or high-end residential construction, with at least 5 years in a leadership or director-level role in the Building and Construction Space.
  • Proven track record of managing complex, high-value residential projects with a focus on exceptional design and high-quality finishes.
  • In-depth knowledge of high-end residential construction processes, materials, and techniques.
  • Strong experience with project management software, budgeting tools, and scheduling programs (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend, MS Project).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and foster a collaborative team environment.
  • In-depth understanding of building codes, zoning laws, and regulations specific to luxury residential construction.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) or other relevant certifications preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and solve complex problems with a high degree of autonomy.
