This Transport Engineer position involves a mix of technical and project management responsibilities, primarily focused on IP assignment, fiber connectivity, and network optimization. Here's a breakdown of the key responsibilities and qualifications:


Key Responsibilities:

  • IP Assignment & Management:
  • Handle IP assignments for new RF radio and baseband configurations.
  • Ensure that these assignments are understood by relevant teams.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
  • Work closely with various stakeholders including RF Design, Network Assurance, Construction, Real Estate, and Telco Vendors.
  • Engage in planning, designing, and executing IP assignment for fiber connectivity projects.
  • Regularly collaborate with peer transport engineers to optimize transport networks including fronthaul, backhaul, and microwave networks.
  • Work Orders & Engineering:
  • Create, design, and issue Work Orders.
  • Engineer new cell sites and manage existing MSC growth, including LTE and C-band carrier additions.
  • Perform end-to-end oversight of multiple transport solutions.
  • Involvement in 10G cell site router knowledge, dark fiber, and microwave network design.
  • Knowledge in CWDM/DWDM Optical Transport systems and working with vendors like Ciena, Nokia, and Cisco.
  • Proficiency in using microwave design software and circuit database tracking.
  • Cost Reduction & Network Uplift:
  • Develop and implement monthly interconnect plans to support the uplift of Ethernet backhaul bandwidth to 10G.
  • Migrate core network connectivity to 100G NNI paths.
  • Manage telco vendors to ensure network milestones and turn-up dates are met.
  • Adopt current methods/procedures for interconnect tracking and validate close-out packages.
  • Field Coordination & Travel:
  • Attend project update meetings to provide technical solutions and release work orders to field engineering teams.
  • Partner with field and systems Network Assurance teams to activate fiber connectivity.
  • Travel up to 15% for circuit deliveries coordination.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of transport design experience in the cellular/telecommunications industry.
  • Experience with CWDM/DWDM Optical Transport systems (Ciena, Nokia, Cisco).
  • Familiarity with dark fiber vendors, ordering processes, and network portfolio maps.
  • Microwave design software experience.
  • Proficient in office computer applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Willingness to work from Rolling Meadows, IL office at least 2 days a week.
