Our mission is to end exploitation and the sex trade through quality programming, strategic partnerships and comprehensive legislative initiatives. We have developed a comprehensive approach to accomplishing our mission which includes advocacy for social change and justice for survivors, leading legislative initiatives at national, state, and local levels, providing training and consulting services to community-based partners such as medical providers, social services agencies, and law enforcement, and developing and delivering education and outreach services for community members and academic institutions.


Job Summary:


The Public Policy and Research Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing public policy initiatives and conducting research to support the organization's mission of providing comprehensive services to individuals with lived and living experience in the sex trade, including sex trafficking. This individual will work closely with the Director of Programs and other staff members to advocate for policies that promote the rights and well-being of trafficked individuals, as well as to generate and analyze data and insights that can inform the organization's programs and services. This is a full-time, exempt position that may require hours outside of regular administrative hours and light travel in and out of state.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Develop and implement public policy initiatives aimed at addressing the root causes of trafficking, improving support services for survivors, and increasing accountability for traffickers.

2. Monitor legislative and regulatory developments at the local, state, and federal levels that impact trafficked individuals and provide analysis and recommendations to the organization's leadership.

3. Build relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, advocacy organizations, and community partners, to advance the organization's policy goals.

4. Conduct research and analyses on trafficking trends, best practices in service delivery, and other relevant topics to inform the organization's programmatic work and advocacy efforts.

5. Draft study protocols, and surveys to utilize for data gathering and collection for ongoing studies.

6. Prepare policy briefs, reports, abstracts (potentially manuscripts), and other materials to communicate research findings and policy recommendations to a variety of audiences.

7. Represent the organization at meetings, conferences, and other events to raise awareness about trafficking issues and promote the organization's work.

8. Collaborate with the organization's communications team to develop messaging and materials that support policy and research efforts.


Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in public policy, social work, or a related field; advanced degree preferred (master’s degree in health policy, epidemiology, social medical sciences etc.).

- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in public policy advocacy, research, or a related field.

- Knowledge of human trafficking issues and a commitment to social justice and human rights.

- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and communicate it effectively to diverse audiences.

- Experience working with diverse communities and a demonstrated commitment to cultural competency and inclusion.

Experience working with diverse populations and collecting firsthand in person data through interviews and surveys (note: hours may be outside of regular work hours and require light travel).

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Experience with applying for International Review Board (IRB) preferred

- Experience analyzing data and running baseline statistics necessary (software experience for running these, SPSS, SAS, R, or advanced excel preferred).

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and research tools.
