Counselor Job Summary: Responsible for providing professional counseling services to individuals and groups. Responsible for completing documentation according to Basecamp Recovery Center’s documentation policies.


Job Duties/Responsibilities:

● Upholds the Mission Statement of Basecamp Recovery Center, participates in general meetings and management meetings as scheduled. Relates professionally to and maintains professional relationships with all clients and staff. Complies with all agency policies and procedures including client rights, safety rules and regulations, the agency code of ethics and all applicable state and local rules. Performs other duties as assigned.

● Provides quality substance use/abuse and mental health clinical assessments, treatment plans and intervention services to clients on an individual, and group basis in compliance with the agency’s policies and procedures. Maintains a caseload of individual clients as assigned. Continually observes and evaluates clients for risk of lethality, and immediately notifies the Clinical Director of clients at risk.

● Conducts group counseling sessions and conducts individual counseling sessions each week with assigned clients in areas to include prevention and education. Performs Entry/Intake Assessments on new clients. Provides prevention, consultation and educational services to clients and to community organizations as assigned by the Clinical Director.

● Participates in Treatment Team Meetings with individual clients as clinically appropriate.

● Assumes the caseload of other counselor(s) during emergencies, illness, and vacations as requested by the Clinical Director.

● Utilizes knowledge of community resources to serve as liaison and establishes linkages between Basecamp Recovery Center and other agencies and community groups to ensure the needs of Basecamp Recovery Center clients are addressed.


Required Skills/Abilities:

● Proficiency in Microsoft Office

● Decision making skills

● Strong oral/written communication skills

● Problem/conflict resolution skills

● Interpersonal skills

● Ability to relate and communicate with a broad socio-economic cross-section of individuals


Education and Experience:

● Graduate degree in Counseling, Social Work or related field preferred

● LSW or LPC required; LISW or LPCC preferred

● Experience with AOD counseling, working with homeless persons, trauma survivors, and family systems required
