Overview:

A Property Insurance Underwriter evaluates and assesses risks associated with insuring properties, commercial buildings, and real estate. They play a critical role in determining whether an insurance policy should be issued, the terms of coverage, and the appropriate premium rates. Underwriters analyze data, review applications, and collaborate with agents and brokers to make informed decisions.

Responsibilities:

Risk Assessment:

  • Review insurance applications for property coverage.
  • Evaluate property details, including location, construction type, and condition.
  • Assess risk factors such as fire hazards, natural disasters, and security measures.

Policy Decision-Making:

  • Determine whether to approve or decline insurance policies.
  • Set coverage limits, deductibles, and policy terms.
  • Calculate premiums based on risk assessment.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with insurance agents, brokers, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance on risk mitigation strategies.
  • Address inquiries and negotiate terms with clients.

Research and Analysis:

  • Stay informed about industry trends, regulations, and market conditions.
  • Analyze historical data and claims statistics.
  • Use underwriting guidelines and company policies to make consistent decisions.

Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate records of underwriting decisions.
  • Prepare policy documents and endorsements.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Risk Management:

  • Balance risk exposure by diversifying the portfolio.
  • Monitor existing policies for changes in risk factors.
  • Collaborate with loss control specialists and risk engineers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field (preferred).
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter - CPCU).
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Knowledge of insurance principles, policies, and regulations.

Experience:

  • 3 to 5 Years Commercial Property Insurance experience preferred.
