Preferred Qualifications Bachelors degree in a plant-related field Position Summary This position will provide general support for the lab, to boost the efficiency of project output and expedite experimental results. This will include media and stock preparation, dishwashing, and greenhouse maintenance, tissue culture, DNA extractions and PCR. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies Sterile technique; plant tissue and cell culture. Plant husbandry. Physical Demands
  • Plant care for soybeans, rice and switchgrass plants in the greenhouse in hot and cold temps, including lifting pots and soil.
  • Lift 40 lbs.
  • Occasional field work.

Duties/Responsibilities Project support on transformation projects as needed (aseptic technique, tissue culture transfers, DNA extractions, PCR and gel electrophoresis). Percentage of time 40 Duties/Responsibilities Care for plants in greenhouse (watering, planting, maintenance and harvesting). Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities Media and stock preparation for the lab, including autoclaving, pouring and storage.

Percentage of time 15 Duties/Responsibilities Record-keeping and uploading to project website as needed. Percentage of time 15 Duties/Responsibilities Assist with lab and equipment maintenance, including ordering and tracking chemical inventories, glassware washing and preparation for tissue transfers and bacterial cultures.
