Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Qualifications and RequirementsThe qualifications/requirements, knowledge/skills/abilities and physical requirements or working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.Construction Inspector I Requirements ($24.02 - $38.44 per hour):High school graduation, or the equivalentMinimum 1 year of construction and inspection work experience in one or more of the following fields: utility installation (water, sewer, storm drain), building construction, storm water management construction, transportation-related projects, and/or parkland development constructionPossession of a valid automobile operator's licenseConstruction Inspector II Requirements ($25.70 - $41.13 per hour):High school graduation, or the equivalentMinimum 3 years of construction and inspection work experience in one or more of the following fields: utility installation (water, sewer, storm drain), building construction, storm water management construction, transportation-related projects, and/or parkland development constructionPossession of a valid automobile operator's licenseNOTE: A related Associate's degree may reduce the work experience requirement to 1 yearConstruction Inspector III Requirements ($29.43 - $47.09 per hour):High school graduation, or the equivalentMinimum 7 years of construction and inspection work experience in one or more of the following fields: utility installation (water, sewer, storm drain), building construction, storm water management construction, transportation-related projects, and/or parkland development constructionPossession of a valid automobile operator's licenseNOTE: A related Associate's degree may reduce the work experience requirement to 5 yearsNOTE: Placement into an I, II or III position level is based upon such qualifications as education, work experience, and relevant certification. The upper pay ranges reflect possible wage rates for internal County transfers and promotions. For transfers and promotions, wage rates are calculated per County policy.Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:Ability to maintain County Authorized Driver privilegesConsiderable skills with computerized systems and equipment to include MS Office SuiteExtensive knowledge of construction materials, equipment, tools and methods related to the above projectsExtensive knowledge of local, State and Federal construction standards, specifications, building codes and other construction requirementsExtensive knowledge of construction schedules and stages of constructionConsiderable knowledge of civil engineering practices, surveying practices and principles, and mathematicsConsiderable knowledge of potential hazards associated with this type of work, with ability to effectively initiate and enforce appropriate safety precautionsAbility to effectively read and interpret blueprints, plans and specificationsAbility to demonstrate sound technical judgment in the performance of assigned dutiesStrong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills, including the ability to write and maintain clear, concise reports and recordsAbility to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractors and the general publicPreference may be given for:Experience with MS Project, Expedition or Primavera softwarePhysical Demands/Working Conditions:While working in this position, the employee is constantly making repetitive motions; is frequently sitting, walking/moving, stopping/kneeling/crouching and driving; occasionally ascending or descending, crawling, lifting between 20-50 pounds, lifting over 50 pounds, pushing and pulling up to and over 40 pounds and reaching.While working in this position, the employee is frequently working indoors, outdoors, walking on uneven ground, in dirty/dusty/noisy environments, near machinery, potentially exposed to infectious diseases and required to wear protective equipment; occasionally exposed to temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees, working in confined spaces, working at heights, working below ground level and is exposed to chemicals and fumes.Available for some irregular hours due to contractors' schedules, and available on-call for emergency situations.
