Human Resources Administrative SpecialistThe Arlington County Police Department (ACPD) is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Human Resources Administrative Specialist to support administrative and technical functions within the Human Resource Management Section (HRMS) of the Systems Management Division. This role manages and maintains personnel records, processes HR transactions, supports timekeeping and operational HR functions, and serves as backup to HRMS staff. The position requires a high degree of discretion, accuracy, and knowledge of County administrative regulations, Virginia law, and Police Department policies.Specific duties include:Preparing and processing personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, pay changes, demotions, merit awards, signing bonuses, and other employee notices;Processing pre-onboarding documents and assisting new hires to ensure timely submission;Assisting hiring managers with composing requisitions and supporting recruitment activities, including candidate dispositioning and lifecycle management;Assisting with pay-above-entry requests and providing guidance on salary administration policies;Ensuring timely submission and tracking of performance evaluations to support annual increase processes;Running reports and compiling data to support compensation, classification, and operational needs;Responding to internal and external inquiries regarding employment verification, background checks, and workforce status;Assisting with planning departmental events, including award ceremonies, promotional events, and retirements; andServing as a liaison to employees by answering questions related to pay, leave, and benefits and supporting issue resolution.The ideal candidate will be highly organized, capable of managing multiple priorities, skilled in handling confidential information, and able to communicate clearly and professionally with internal and external stakeholders.Minimums: Some college coursework in the area of human resources management, business administration, public administration or a related field in an accredited college or university; and considerable experience in human resources work in either a private, public or governmental environment.Substitution: Additional education may be substituted for experience. Additional experience may be substituted for education.Desirables: Preference may be given to applicants with experience in one or more of the following: Using Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams; drafting, editing, and proofreading correspondence and reports; providing administrative support to executive-level staff; tracking and organizing time-sensitive projects; and/or using PRISM+ or other Oracle-based systems to process reports.Special Requirements:Polygraph/Background Check: Due to the sensitive nature of this position, the Police Department will conduct pre-employment criminal records checks and polygraph examinations. It will include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, character/background investigation, and credit history. You will be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.Work hours: Typical work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Telework opportunities are possible with supervisor approval.Starting salary is commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate selected.This position is eligible for County government employee benefits that include health, dental, vacation and sick leave, commuter transportation subsidies, tuition reimbursement, as well as a generous retirement plan.
