We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety, Health, and Environmental (SH&E) Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing our commitment to safety, health, and environmental protection in our manufacturing environment.


Title: Senior Specialist, Safety and Health

Location: Anniston, AL 36207

Duration: 09 Months Contract (with Further possible extension)


The Safety, Health, and Environmental (SH&E) Specialist will be responsible for: implementing and maintaining programs for safety, health, and environmental protection; compliance to local, state, and federal regulations; inspection and oversight of best management practices; participating in emergency planning activities; integrating safety health and environmental programs in a manufacturing environment; and training of employees and subcontractors.


Job Description:

  • Implement and maintain programs for safety, health, and environmental protection
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
  • Conduct inspections and oversee best management practices
  • Participate in emergency planning activities
  • Integrate safety, health, and environmental programs in a manufacturing setting
  • Train employees and subcontractors on SH&E practices
  • Develop and implement cost-effective programs to fulfill regulatory obligations and manage SH&E risks
  • Prepare reports and studies for submission to regulatory agencies
  • Assist with hazardous material and waste management, groundwater remediation, air emissions reporting, wastewater reporting, and environmental sustainability
  • Coordinate and lead projects (some supervisory responsibilities may be required)
  • Perform other duties and job responsibilities as assigned

Required Skills:

  • Previous experience with hazardous waste management
  • Knowledge of SH&E regulations (OSHA, RCRA, DOT, ADEM, EPA) and modern SH&E management principles
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to convey complex information effectively
  • Ability to work in a team environment and take initiative individually
  • Capability to evaluate industrial processes and develop solutions
  • Project management skills
  • Familiarity with audit processes
  • Ability to coach and consult with line management at all levels to build a culture of excellent SH&E performance
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Experience facilitating meetings and working groups
  • Basic knowledge of Safety/Health & Environmental Management Systems (ISO 45001/ISO 14001 requirements)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of engineering, chemical, physical, and biological sciences
  • Experience managing significant environmental programs, including hazardous waste, air emissions, wastewater, spill prevention, etc.
  • CHMM, CSP, or CIH certification

Required Experience:

  • 3+ years of Safety/Health and/or Environmental experience in a manufacturing, industrial, regulatory, or consulting company with increasing responsibilities

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, safety, or an equivalent field
