Title: Senior Specialist, Safety and Health
Location: Anniston, AL 36207
Duration: 09 Months Contract (with Further possible extension)
The Safety, Health, and Environmental (SH&E) Specialist will be responsible for: implementing and maintaining programs for safety, health, and environmental protection; compliance to local, state, and federal regulations; inspection and oversight of best management practices; participating in emergency planning activities; integrating safety health and environmental programs in a manufacturing environment; and training of employees and subcontractors.
Job Description:
- Implement and maintain programs for safety, health, and environmental protection
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Conduct inspections and oversee best management practices
- Participate in emergency planning activities
- Integrate safety, health, and environmental programs in a manufacturing setting
- Train employees and subcontractors on SH&E practices
- Develop and implement cost-effective programs to fulfill regulatory obligations and manage SH&E risks
- Prepare reports and studies for submission to regulatory agencies
- Assist with hazardous material and waste management, groundwater remediation, air emissions reporting, wastewater reporting, and environmental sustainability
- Coordinate and lead projects (some supervisory responsibilities may be required)
- Perform other duties and job responsibilities as assigned
Required Skills:
- Previous experience with hazardous waste management
- Knowledge of SH&E regulations (OSHA, RCRA, DOT, ADEM, EPA) and modern SH&E management principles
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to convey complex information effectively
- Ability to work in a team environment and take initiative individually
- Capability to evaluate industrial processes and develop solutions
- Project management skills
- Familiarity with audit processes
- Ability to coach and consult with line management at all levels to build a culture of excellent SH&E performance
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Experience facilitating meetings and working groups
- Basic knowledge of Safety/Health & Environmental Management Systems (ISO 45001/ISO 14001 requirements)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of engineering, chemical, physical, and biological sciences
- Experience managing significant environmental programs, including hazardous waste, air emissions, wastewater, spill prevention, etc.
- CHMM, CSP, or CIH certification
Required Experience:
- 3+ years of Safety/Health and/or Environmental experience in a manufacturing, industrial, regulatory, or consulting company with increasing responsibilities
Required Education:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, safety, or an equivalent field
