You join a community that respects who you are away from work as much as what you do while at work.We are currently seeking a professional, innovative and enthusiastic Executive Director for our Southern Maryland Chapter, based in Landover, MD.This position involves very little operational responsibility. It is an external-facing, community relations position. It is a huge plus if the successful candidate has established connections within the community.As part of the National Capital & Greater Chesapeake Region, the Southern Maryland Chapter provides life-saving services in Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Prince George's and St. Mary's counties that include emergency disaster relief to local families, blood to area hospitals, and emotional and financial support to military families.Dynamic Leadership of the Southern Maryland Chapter: As the Chapter's leader, you will be the vital link between the American Red Cross and the communities we serve, ensuring our presence is deeply felt and our mission creates lasting change. You will expand our impact, forging strong connections to ensure that the Red Cross is woven into the fabric of our communities.Building Transformative Relationships: You will be a key ambassador, cultivating meaningful relationships with influential community leaders, businesses, philanthropists, and elected officials. Your leadership will drive the achievement of chapter and regional goals by expanding the reach and capacity of the Red Cross in the Southern Maryland and the larger DMV.Championing an Influential Board of Directors: You will develop and lead a diverse, influential, and well-connected Board of Directors, empowering these local champions to galvanize resources and support for the Red Cross. Your role will ensure the Board's effectiveness in driving the Red Cross mission forward.Inspiring Strategic and Influential Leadership: As a visionary leader, you will inspire and motivate a high-performing team of volunteers and employees through influence to exceed fundraising, blood collection, and mission delivery goals. Your ability to think strategically and inspire others will shape the future of the Red Cross in our Southern Maryland chapter and have a lasting impact within its communities.Creating a Culture of Inclusion and Belonging: You will leverage your influence to foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and belonging, ensuring employees and volunteers feel empowered to work as a cohesive, mission-driven team for impact and community outcomes.Visionary Chapter Planning: You'll spearhead the chapter's annual planning process, identifying key areas where we can make the greatest impact in the community. Your vision will directly shape the outcomes we deliver in partnership with the communities we serve.Key Regional Leadership Role: As a member of the National Capital & Greater Chesapeake Regional Leadership Team, you will work closely with the Regional CEO, playing an integral role in shaping the direction and success of the American Red Cross in the region. Although this position doesn't include direct reports, you will hold a pivotal role on the regional leadership team.What You Need To Succeed:Education: Four-year college degree (BS/BA) in Business, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Finance or non-profit administration or equivalent experience required. Prefer Master's degree in the field of community organization, public or business administration or non-profit management.Experience: Minimum of 7 years related experience. Demonstrated ability to exercise good and timely judgment in complex situations. Demonstrated ability for strong communications and influencing skills along with public speaking and writing. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement fundraising strategies. Demonstrated ability to build sustain community relationships/partnerships. Proven experience in influencing others and building relationships.Other: Proficient with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Familiarity with federal state and local employment laws.Skills & Abilities: Ability to work on a team.Travel: Travel within communities served and region, occasionally division. May travel and participate in meetings and conferences throughout chapter jurisdiction, state and Red Cross system. May include sitting for long periods of time, driving a vehicle and working under challenging conditions. A current valid driver's license and good driving record is required.*Combination of candidate's education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description's minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phones and printers, light traffic).
