Position Summary


We are seeking an experienced Linux and Solaris Administrator to join our IT infrastructure team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, configuration, management, and troubleshooting of Linux and Solaris operating systems in a dynamic environment. This role involves ensuring system performance, availability, and security, while also supporting system upgrades, backups, and disaster recovery.


Key technical skills required


➢ System Administration: Manage and administer Linux and Solaris systems, ensuring optimal performance, security, and uptime.

➢ Installation & Configuration: Install and configure new servers, patches, and updates on Linux and Solaris platforms.

➢ Troubleshooting: Perform root cause analysis and resolve hardware and software issues related to system performance and reliability.

➢ Monitoring & Performance Tuning: Use monitoring tools to track system performance, resolve bottlenecks, and implement necessary changes.

➢ User Management: Handle user account creation, permission settings, and security administration.

➢ Backup & Recovery: Implement and manage backup schedules, perform recovery testing, and ensure disaster recovery plans are in place.

➢ Security Compliance: Enforce security protocols, apply security patches, and ensure systems are compliant with industry standards.

➢ Automation: Develop and implement scripts for system automation, management, and monitoring.

➢ Virtualization Support: Provide support for virtualization platforms such as VMware or KVM for the Linux/Solaris environments.

➢ Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation of systems, configurations, procedures, and policies.


Required Skills and Qualifications


➢ Educational Qualification: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

➢ Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in Linux (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) and Solaris system administration.

➢ Scripting & Automation: Strong expertise in Unix Shell scripting and automation tools like Ansible or Puppet.

➢ Backup & Recovery: Experience with backup and recovery tools like Veritas NetBackup or Bacula.

➢ Virtualization: Proficiency in virtualization technologies such as VMware, KVM, or Oracle VM.

➢ Networking & Security: In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP networking, DNS, NFS, LDAP, and firewalls.

➢ Performance & Security: Experience with performance tuning, security hardening, and patch management.

➢ Monitoring: Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, or SolarWinds.


Preferred Skills


➢ Cloud Platforms: Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

➢ Certifications: Certifications in Linux (RHCSA, RHCE) or Solaris (SCSA, OCA) administration.

➢ Containerization: Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.


Primary Responsibilities


➢ Performance Monitoring: Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and proactively troubleshoot to maintain optimal performance.

➢ Patch Management: Regularly apply patches and updates to maintain security and system stability

➢ System Security: Ensure system compliance with security protocols and best practices.

➢ Disaster Recovery: Implement and test disaster recovery protocols to ensure rapid recovery in the event of a system failure.

➢ Support & Troubleshooting: Provide end-user support and resolve system issues quickly and efficiently.

➢ Virtualization: Support virtualization environments, including troubleshooting and optimizing virtual machine performance.

➢ System Documentation: Maintain detailed and up-to-date documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
