The most successful candidates believe that more is possible for Memphis and are:Courageous Thinkers & Doers : Prepared to navigate and thrive in a complex and ambiguous environment on day one, present innovative ideas to address systemwide issues, and execute sustainable plans toward transformation.Solutions-Oriented : See the possibilities, demonstrate the capacity to synthesize information and adjust short and long-term goals, and consistently find a window when doors close to deliver measurable results for kids and families.High-Performing Gamechangers : Leader of leaders with the capacity to mobilize and empower an outstanding team, make people-centered data-informed decisions, and operate with a relentless hyperfocus on removing stubborn barriers that destroy the hopes and dreams of too many of our students.Essential Job FunctionsSweeps, mops, scrubs, and renews floor surfaces utilizing floor scrubbing and polishing machines, vacuum cleaners, shampoo machines and other motorized cleaning equipment.Cleans door mats, boiler flues, light fixtures, lamps, window shades/blinds, drinking fountains, chalkboards, walls, rails, heating/air-conditioning units and trash containers as instructed.Dusts/polishes furniture, exhibit cases, fixtures, windowsills, doors, trim and related furnishings.Washes and/or cleans interior and exterior window and door glass.Turns in sweeping mop heads, wet mop heads and wiping cloths for washing at Mop Laundry.Cleans and services lavatories, restrooms, locker rooms and shower rooms.Removes broken glass, paper, and debris from grounds, play areas and parking lots.Cleans cooling towers and changes air filters.Sweeps or shovels snow and ice from outside steps, walks, fire escapes, building entrance and connecting walks as required.Collects wastepaper, boxes, and other debris; empties into appropriate outside waste containers.Moves furniture such as teacher's desks, file cabinets, bookcases, tables, chairs, student desks, and miscellaneous items and equipment as instructed.Replace burned out lamps, broken windows, door glass, window shades and blinds as instructed.Performs duties that require the use of ladders.Reports to supervisor, items that need repair, or any unsafe equipment or condition.Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.Minimum QualificationsEducation - Minimum of tenth (10th) grade Must be able to understand and carry out oral and/or written instructions. Some commercial or institution housekeeping experience desirable but not required.Degree Equivalency Formula :Bachelor's Degree = 4 years plus required years of experience.Master's Degree =6 years plus required years of experience.Additional Job DetailsHOURS AND TERM OF EMPLOYMENT Five (5) hours or eight (8) hours per day. Nine (9) months or twelve (12) months per year. Location: Zone 1 Schools Most custodial work is performed inside; however, some duties must be performed outside under varying conditions. Must be physically able to perform all duties required by this position.
