Deputy Sheriff-JailerFull-Time PositionPay Range: $28.04/hour - $35.84/hourPosition Summary:The Deputy Sheriff-Jailer is a sworn deputy position assigned to the Jail Division. The individual performs such duties to include but not be limited to: book and take fingerprints and photographs of persons brought to the jail, supervise inmates, keep written and computerized records, and serve as court security as needed. This is a generalist position that emphasizes the application of incarceration methods and procedures as they apply to a county jail when appropriate and necessary, while performing general jailer duties. This individual will exercise a good deal of discretion and act independently in some situations while performing a variety of jailer duties and tasks.Job Responsibilities:Assign prisoners to specific cells, check cells regularly for security purposes, conduct random searches, operate the jail control center, self-initiate appropriate activity when not involved with assigned tasksReceive and release all prisoners, make in-custody searches, check and secure personal property of persons being incarcerated, complete a booking, photograph and fingerprint prisonersSupervise Huber inmates as they go to and return from their place of employment, and supervise trustees as they work in the jailControl and distribute medicines as prescribedArrange visiting times for family and legal counsel of inmates, keep track of court appearances, accompany inmates to court, act as court security, when necessary, testify in court as orderedOperate breathalyzer and SCBA equipment as necessary; any other duties and complete any special assignments as directed by supervisorsJob Requirements:High school diploma or equivalentMinimum of 60 college credits within 5 years of hire dateU.S. Citizen; minimum age 21Valid drivers license with good driving recordAbility to possess a firearmNo felony convictions; no domestic abuse convictionsGood verbal and written skillsKnowledge and skills in operating computer systemsClear and concise speechAbility to perform essential job functions of the positionAbility to obtain and retain certification as a jail officer by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards BoardFull-time sworn deputies of the Ozaukee County Sheriffs Office must reside within Ozaukee County or counties adjacent to Ozaukee County. These counties include Sheboygan, Washington, Milwaukee, and Waukesha.
