Senior Linux Systems Engineer - HFT Trading Infrastructure


Our client is a leading propriety trading firm headquartered in Chicago and is seeking a senior technologist who has a strong understanding of low latency trading infrastructure architecture to join their trading research and development team. This is a unique time in the company’s history as they are consolidating all the software and infrastructure teams globally to create a first-class technology lead trading firm.


As the Trading Infrastructure Architect, you will play a pivotal role in the global expansion of the Linux trading environment to support the firm's expansion into new strategies and asset classes. This is a hands-on role that will truly test your understanding of Linux as your main responsibility will be to architect and configure a globally distributed Linux environment with latency at the core of its design as well as reliability to mitigate downtime.


Responsibilities:


  • You will be the subject matter expert and lead the vision and set the technical course for all Linux-based infrastructure initiatives.
  • Manage and oversee the complete lifecycle of servers, from inception to deployment, crafting and implementing innovative solutions on a global scale to support the expansion of strategies.
  • Serve as a project lead/manager to link all technology teams and resources during project work related to the trading environment.
  • Work with the observability team to monitor and manage system capacity to ensure unparalleled performance worldwide.
  • Analyze and fix technical issues, providing rapid solutions to complex, real-time problems.
  • Lead the global charge towards cutting-edge automation, driving efficiency and innovation.
  • Act as the crucial link between hardware and software, ensuring seamless integration and operation.
  • Research and implement the latest technologies, or develop superior solutions to stay ahead on the global stage.


Qualifications:


  • Linux Expert
  • Multiple years of experience architecting, configuring, and managing bare-metal UNIX servers to support low latency activities ideally from a trading firm.
  • Proven experience managing multiple projects/ workflows at scale while still being hands-on with the day-to-day of Linux engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux Kernel internals.
  • You would have a strong understanding of how hardware and software interact.
  • Hands-on development in scripting using Python is a must.
  • Experience with containers and orchestration tools like Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience implementing IaC tooling such as Ansible, Docker, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Experience in the administration of clusters of homogeneous machines would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of virtualization and networking would be beneficial.
