Job Summary
Under the direction of the Automation Design Supervisor, the Automation Design Engineer I is responsible for creating models using Solid works software to Create parts, sub-assemblies, and assemblies in the virtual environment as well as using those models to create accurate detail drawings in accordance to HellermannTyton Automation Department standards. Knowledge of other drafting programs such as AutoCAD would also be beneficial. These designs will meet or exceed HellermannTyton‘s production and quality standards, also meeting customer delivery requirements and demands.

Essential Functions:



  • Assist in design of Automation and Secondary equipment; meeting engineering standards, applicable codes, customer specifications and within HellermannTyton cost constraints.
  • Manage ‘small‘ scale projects from design kickoff to production released with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborate and review with Design Engineers and Director of Automation on custom parts and application in a team environment.
  • Ensure conformance to ASME Codes, IATF16949 and company standards for quality and manufacturability.
  • Assist in improved design of current and standard automation and components to improve quality and productivity, while reducing costs.
  • Assist Design Engineers with the Enterprise PDM Solid works data system integration, and assist Automation Supervisor in developing a document library and control within EPDM.
  • Initiate open purchases as well as capital purchase orders as required.
  • Work with Continuous Improvement Engineer to develop a Continuous Improvement environment for all existing machines and work to improve designs that are already in use.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to address and resolve manufacturing, design and quality problems, and to ensure the continuous, on-going improvement of processes and methods.
  • Continue to build on knowledge and technology in the industry.
  • Follow all housekeeping procedures.
  • Comply with quality and safety regulations.

Other Functions



  • Local travel may be required on a ‘as needed‘ basis.
  • All employees entering the manufacturing area and other identified locations must wear the designated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Assist in design and assembly of Manuals and operation manuals as needed.
  • Wearing your Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a condition of employment.
  • Other Duties as assigned

Success in this role will require



  • Project management skills to assist with managing current and future projects.
  • Ensure conformance to ASME and OHSHA codes.
  • Follow all company standards for quality and manufacturability.
  • Experience with CAD/Solid Works.

What You‘ll Bring



  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
  • Associates Degree preferred. In lieu of a degree, 3+ years of equivalent related work experience required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical specifications and blueprints. Ability to write reports and documentation. Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, customers, and other employees in the organization.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and have a general understanding of fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Basic knowledge of detail drafting skills.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical and pneumatic componentry preferred.
  • Experience in dealing with suppliers/vendors.
  • Ability for local travel, as needed.
  • Must have a valid driver‘s license, with an acceptable driving record and adequate insurance.
