Senior Platform Development Engineer - PaaS Specialist

6 Month Contract to Hire (Ideal client outcome is full-time retention)

Fully Remote


Brooksource is seeking a Senior Platform Development Engineer specializing in Platform as a Service (PaaS) solutions and declarative programming paradigms. The ideal candidate will excel in leveraging Azure's PaaS offerings and implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform's declarative approach. This role focuses on designing and maintaining scalable, secure, and resilient cloud platforms using declarative methodologies to support our applications and services. Key Responsibilities:

Design and Implementation

  • Architect and develop cloud solutions primarily using Azure's PaaS offerings, minimizing IaaS components where possible.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform's to define and manage Azure PaaS resources.
  • Develop declarative CI/CD pipelines to automate the deployment and configuration of PaaS services and applications.


Declarative Monitoring and Optimization

  • Implement monitoring and alerting solutions using declarative configurations in Azure Monitor and Log Analytics.
  • Optimize PaaS resource usage and costs through declarative policies and best practices.


Automation and Scripting:

  • Automate routine tasks using declarative configurations in Azure Policy, Azure Blueprints, and Terraform.
  • Develop scripts and templates for consistent environment provisioning and management.


Security and Compliance in PaaS:

  • Ensure PaaS services adhere to security and compliance standards using declarative security policies.
  • Focus on the principle of least privilege to minimize access rights for users to only those necessary for their roles.


Focused Collaboration and Support:

  • Collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to ensure seamless integration of infrastructure and applications.
  • Provide expertise in troubleshooting PaaS-specific issues and optimizing declarative configurations.


Documentation and Training:

  • Document architectures, declarative configurations, and best practices.
  • Train team members on leveraging Azure PaaS services and writing IaC with Terraform.


Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience with Azure PaaS services, including App Service, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, and Azure SQL Database.
  • Advanced proficiency in using Terraform (particularly Terraform Enterprise for large-scale, declarative deployments) for IaC, including creating reusable modules.
  • Strong background in CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or similar tools.
  • Experience with declarative configuration management tools like Azure Resource Manager templates.
  • Proficiency in declarative scripting languages such as PowerShell DSC or HashiCorp Configuration Language (HCL).
  • Strong scripting skills in PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar languages.
  • Familiarity with serverless architectures and PaaS-based containerization services like Azure Container Instances.
