Job Summary:

As a Reliability Engineer, you will be instrumental in analyzing and improving the performance and reliability of various electrical systems. You will leverage your expertise in electrical distribution systems, motor components, and industrial equipment to ensure optimal functioning and help our clients achieve their operational goals.



Skills and experience required for Volta Insite Reliability Specialist role;

  • Strong understanding of the electrical characteristics and properties associated with both solidly grounded distribution systems & high impedance grounded distribution systems
  • Very familiar with typical industrial electrical distribution system one / three line diagrams – thereby able to explain the impacts of various designs on the electrical characteristics and properties
  • Strong understanding of low voltage (less than 750V AC) VFDs. Should be able to review the parameters / hardware diagrams and explain the impacts / characteristics
  • Familiar with medium voltage (1000 to 6000V AC) VFDs. Should be able to review the parameters / hardware diagrams and explain the impacts / characteristics
  • Familiar with soft starter technologies (electronic, Wye-Delta). Should be able to explain the characteristics
  • Familiar with various motor designs (induction, wound rotor, DC variations) and able to explain their characteristics
  • Familiar with NEMA motor standards
  • Familiar with motor components and failure mechanisms
  • Trained in root failure analysis and typical industrial failure modes / mechanisms
  • Experienced with industrial applications and the associated mechanical equipment (pumps, conveyors, reducers, belts, pulleys, fluid couplings, fans, compressors, saws, cranes, generators, electrostatic precipitators, electric submersible pump, etc…)
  • Experience with NEMA and CE starters
  • Experience with measurement methods and systems (PT’s, CT’s, encoders, ground fault detection, accelerometers, X/Y position measurements)
  • Electrical maintenance typically used in industrial settings (partial discharge, PI, motor circuit analysis, megger, microamp meter, ductor testing)
  • Strong communication skills with client facing focus


Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze solidly grounded and high impedance grounded distribution systems to understand electrical characteristics and impacts
  • Interpret industrial electrical distribution system diagrams (one-line and three-line) and assess their design impacts
  • Evaluate low and medium voltage variable frequency drives (VFDs) and soft starter technologies to determine system impacts and performance characteristics
  • Provide insights into motor designs, including induction, wound rotor, and DC variations, and relate them to their operational standards and failure mechanisms
  • Conduct root failure analysis and identify common industrial failure modes and mechanisms
  • Engage with clients to discuss and resolve technical challenges, ensuring client satisfaction and system reliability
  • Interpret electrical maintenance procedures including partial discharge analysis, motor circuit analysis, and other predictive maintenance technologies



Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical degree; significant professional experience as an Instrumentation Technician or Certified Electrician may also be considered
  • 10+ years of experience in an industrial setting
  • Proficiency with NEMA and CE standards for motor and starter specifications
  • Expertise in using measurement tools and systems such as PT’s, CT’s, encoders, and ground fault detection devices.
